  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

well it appears my company is switching medical insurance carriers. a lot of employees are displeased with the service so our administrator is shopping for carriers. I've never had to "deal" with insurance because in the past the big stuff I've had -- surgeries, wisdom teeth, etc. -- were filed under my dad's insurance when I was his dependant. but one aspect really piqued my curiosity: it appears that if, and when, we switch there's going to be some sort of enrollment period of about 3 months before we are covered. this does not sit well with me at all.

is this standard practice?

This DOES not sound right to me. If you are currently enrolled in your companys health care coverage and THEY are changing providers your coverage should be continuous.

The only time that I have heard of a delay in coverage is when you first become employed with a company.

If that is truely the new carriers rules your company should hold onto the old one until the new one kicks in. I too have never heard of a waiting period except when you are a new employee.

I might have to get involved in this so we don't end up with a shitass plan that sends us all to dr. nick (hiiii! every-body!)

that actually doesn't sound that strange to me. In the pharmacy world we see that all the time. A lot of people have to go on COBRA (basically a between coverage deal). In the rx world, if you have COBRA you pay outright then have to submit the claims yourself. It's a total pain in the ass. INS companies are scum. I can't stand them.

Yeah but that's usually while an individual is between jobs, not when an employr changes insurance companies. I've been at two different companies that switched providers and neither time was there a lag or gap period.
