  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I am happy to announce the date for the Northern California Herf for 2011. The date will be June 18th, 2011 on a Saturday. Besides our monthly herfs we have our annual big herf where we try to get as many people as possible from Northern CA/NV together for one big great smokeout. We get manufacturers and retailors to donate cigars/swag for us to give out as gift bags and raffle/contest prizes. Some of the reps show up also to join in the fun. Last year we had over 90 people and expect to see more this year. We will have contests such as Longest Ash, Power Herf, Texas Holdem, etc. This will be held at Hanger 17 on the back patio at the corner of 17th and S. We are looking to kick off around 2PM and you may want to be there at the start time to get a seat. Since this is a bar and grill, you may order food and drinks as there will be waitresses taking care of us on the back patio. I will post reminders as we get closer, mark this one on your calendar!

Was hoping to make this event but that is the same day Hans holds the Cigar BBQ in Sonoma. I am already committed to pour wine at Cigar BBQ. Have a great time!

I talked to Pete at the Tatuaje event at Tobacco Road last Friday about this event and he said he would be more then happy to help out. At the end of the event I was called up to the front and Pete did an awesome thing! He donated 5 of his event swag packs which contain 3 of the Tatuaje Blacks, a patch, and the cool box opener. He also donated 5 sweet black hats. I was thinking what would be the best way to give these out at the event and here is what I came up with. I will be doing a drive for the troops over seas. If someone donates cigars/items the troops need/money for shipping or other items we will have a special raffle and they will get a raffle ticket for the swag packs. With the responses I have been getting this one is going to be AWESOME!

Is Doug H and Mark G still apart of this? They and their group put on some great NorCal Herfs. True BOTL's through and through. I hope to see them at the Herf.

Where is this going to be held? The last time I was there it was at Hangar 17 which I understand is now closed?

Please update....thanks!

Hangar 17 is closed unfortunately. We are looking at other venues, possibly Chops. When we pin down the exact location I will update. Doug Hart is invited but has nothing to do with it. Mark Grexton is not invited at all, the only one in that category.

Anyone is invited, all you have to do is show up. I will post here when I have the exact location for the big herf. FYI there is a Oliva event at Fat Man Cigars on April 8th if any one wants to come by to meet.

I don't mean to threadjack...but I just heard from a few of the old BOTL's from NorCal. The Original NorCal Group (CW FOGs from Sacto-Yuba City-Reno) are meeting on May 7th. Why are there two NorCal Herfs Joe? What happened to the group up there? Just wonderin'.....

There is a small splinter group that got greedy with the whole herf thing. They decided they wanted to keep the big yearly herf between just thier small group so they could split all the goodies between them. the rest of us wanted to keep it for what it is, a gathering by all BOTL for all BOTL. I have been running it along with Joey for the past few years to keep it in line with what it should be. Anyway I won't bother with them. This event is gonna be even better then last year, I am really looking forward to it.

UM....better check yer facts Joe. According to email traffic provided to me the reason the group split last year was because the owner of Hangar 17 had other ideas what a herf is and there was a scheduling issue. In fact, I was at the 2010 herf and believe me when I say this, being greedy was the last thing the original members were. They didn't have much in terms of donations but every single person in attendance was reaching into the humis and handing out sticks to everyone. That's what I remember herfs being about. So, calling them greedy is incorrect. In fact, look back at the herfs you were invited to with these guys and HONESTLY tell me they are greedy. I only say this as I'm against misinformation and misguided character assassination when it comes to ANY group of herfers discussed publicly.

There is only one ORIGINAL NorCal event both monthly and annually. It's unfortunate your misunderstanding of the group has excluded your participation.

Herf on brother!

Peaches either you got your facts wrong or just ignored what went down. I still have all the emails from last year from the "core" group claiming that they did not want too many people and that the stuff being donated was for them. This was not the sentimet shared by all of them, but certainly the ones who were setting it up. Go back and look at some of the discussions going on about RSVP's being cancelled and people being told there were too many from misc. message boards from a couple years ago on the one they ran. As for the discussions lately on the RCC ring it has been mostly attacks one one person boardering on libel. Anyway if you want to know what really happened talk to any of the B&M owners around Sacramento and you will get an answer. They never see that small group around because they do not support B&M's.

Anyway they can do thier small thing and we will have the Northern California Herf 2011 going on as Scheduled. Already have plenty of manufactures, retailors, and B&M's setup to donate and/or come by (Tatuaje, Oliva, Perfecto Lounge, Fat Man Cigars, Rocky Cigar Mart, Tower, CAO, etc.). Anyone is welcome to join us!

Joe - I don't mean to get into a pissing contest. It seems like there is a major misunderstanding going on. I was at the Herf a couple of years ago when the number of people who showed up exceeded the number gift bags available. I saw the organizers reach into their humi's and make bags out of their stash to insure everyone went home happy. That was my impression...they went above and beyond IMHO.

Also, I know these guys well and they do support local B&M's on a regular basis.

It's a bummer that there is a schism within the Sacto cigar population. To see such strife over something that is meant to bring pleasure, relaxation, and the nurturing of a fellowship is very unfortunate.

Hopefully you guys can set aside egos and agendas to mend fences and make the Sacto Cigar brotherhood as strong as it once was.

Now - Have you selected a venue yet? I need to plan accordingly!

The cigar community in Sac is stronger now then it has ever been especially with Rev and Joey opening thier new shops. As I said anyone is welcome to come in as this is something that should be shared by all for all. As for the venue we have a place in mind but we need to make sure it would work. The organizers will be getting together soon to nail it down. The spot we want to use would be awesome, right in front of the capitol!

I also wanted to point out that you are right, when I said they were greedy it wasn't the whole group. The people that were running the event made the comments but that was going to be how it was run and frustrated and angered a lot of us.
