  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

OH Crap...

As most of you know, i've been looking for an inexpensive lighter. My darling wife, who knew i was upset about losing my last Xikar, went out and bought me a Colibri Elite Flint Barrington lighter for Valentines Day and when i got home last night, she was all excited about it and decided to give it to me early. She didnt know Colibri is now out of business so any warranty problems i'll be SOL on. I've had 2 Colibri Torch Lighters and hated them both, very unreliable, and just wont pay the $ for them. This is NOT a torch lighter so my question is does any have experience with them, either good or bad? I will admit, it is a dang good looking lighter and from what i was told, she paid $30 brand new for it at the local shop...are the flint models more reliable than the torch models??? I hope??? I think she can return it but it looks like it retailed for $69 so is it worth keeping or returning for a Xikar Torch? Just hate to ask her to return it. Here's a generic picture of the lighter...if i can figure out how to attach it...

There is a coupon on Xikars site for 20% off towards a lighter if you give them your old Colibri. But if you can return it that would be the way to go.

MY .02.....XIKAR LIGHTERS SUCK. I've had 2, and have had to replce both of them twice. If you can return the Colibri, go for it, but maybe just keep it. $30 is not overspending for it so it is what it is. Use it and enjoy it.

Yeah, i'm really looking for input from someone who has used this lighter...not just about switching to a Xikar, no offense. This was a gift and if you could have seen how excited she was about it, you'd know what i mean. I know i'd like to swap out for a Xikar but just dont know if i'm going to have the heart to do so...DPrice, this comment wasnt directed towards you, you posted as i was typing. I'm just hoping someone comes along who owns/owned one of these and can give me some input. Again, it makes a HUGE difference telling your wife "i dont like your lighter, i'm going to return for one i REALLY want!"...man, i can already see the couch calling my name! LOL

I have heard the new Colibris Suck too. So at this point, just keep it an smile about it. Not worth upsetting the wife, especially if she was really excited about it.

DPrice,
I can attest to the Colibri sucking! As i said, both were the torch version. Can anyone really mess up a flint model???

I've heard that if you use the top fuel (5x?) that they work pretty well in general, but I have no experience sorry.

Whoopsie...i just read the flame comes out at a 45 degree angle which leads me to believe this is more geared towards pipes...well, let the sh!t hit the fan! Looks like i'm going to have to exchange it...they have a Xikar Exodus for $45...soft flame and windproof. Do y'all have a preference between flame vs torch? I smoke mostly larger ring gauge cigars! She is going to kick my arse...

Torch is best IMHO...but the soft flame will work just fine. Still I would just suck it up and keep it. I'll tell you what. I'll pick up a torch lighter for you tonight and send it out next week. That way you don't have to upset the wifey, and you'll have a torch until you can get the Xikar. Also the soft flame at a 45 angle is just fine for cigars. And who knows, you may want to pick up a pipe later on. PM me your addy.

Thank you for the offer but not necessary. I do appreciate it though. Man, you guys are SO quick to help out, it's scary! As i said yesterday, i wish i had found this site sooner. I'll talk to wifey tonight and get her thoughts before i do anything. Thank you for the offer...

I bid on the same lighter on C-bid and did not win. I ended up with the Xikar flintfire 2 which does not suck.

The flint ignition seems pretty straight forward, so I think you'll be fine. The angel should be no problem for cigars.

Keep it and enjoy it, it looks great.

I use the soft flame xikar at the cigar bar, and a Ronson torch outside.

Dude, you are crazy for talking to the wife about this. Let her think it wa the best gift ever, and that you love it. If it stops working, keep it and let her think you are still using it. Avoid all possible conflict man. No need to shoot yourself in the foot over it. :headroll:

Anyhow my local shop has some killer torches for <$5 and I think I have one at the house. Pay it forward when you can.

Dave

Ok I found a torch for you. It doesn't look all "black tie" like the colibris or Xikars, but I have been using one of these for a year with no issues. Double torch, easy adjust wheel, and a huge tank. and I fill it with ronson fuel and it works great, of course triple refine fuel or better is recommended for longevity.. Also if you lose it, no worries, less than $5. Coming at you tomorrow.

Return it and take the $30 and go to Wal Mart and p/u 10 Ronson Jet Flame lighters. After that you should dump your girlfriend for not doing the research on your hobby about Colibri:cool: Seriously though never owned a soft flame if that's what it is but they do look nice. I say keep it and if it craps out on you head over to Wal Mart and buy the Ronson jet flame and you'll never buy another lighter again.
