  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

so i got a question as to why i considered this box of cigars my "crown Jewel" of my modest collection, and well it was around 6 months since i had smoked one, and all i could honestly say earlier was how smooth and balanced it was after 6 years of aging, so i decided to smoke one, and make my first ever review of a cigar! so be gentle!

first look: beautifully aged cigar and you can't help but notice the laser etching just below the band, so unique. really makes you feel like you are holding something that was as special to the makers as it is to you. this is a very firm cigar, from foot to cap, this cigar is firm and uniform. the Master Blends in every effort are box pressed, which i haven't gained a preference for or against, but really adds to the looks of this cigar's presentation.

as with most robustos, i used my bullet punch to cut this cigar, and it always cuts like a dream

prelight draw: it really foreshadows what is to come, a perfect blend of almost unidentifiable flavors, creating this mouth coating situation that almost makes defining anything impossible, but the exhale brings flavors of black licorice.

first third: again after six years of proper aging and fantastic blending, the word is Balance. again yoru whole palate is coated with this lightly buttery blend of oak and woods, and sweet grass on the nose at exhale

second third: this cigar begins to pick up abotu the halfway mark, slightly below the "tattoo" bringing in intensifying spice and roasted nuts and hints of wood on the nose on exhale

final third: this cigar really shows it's stuff on the final third, heating slightly, you get the feeling this cigar is alot younger than it is, and it NOT a bad thing. this is where a cool glass of scotch was great, keeping my mouth cool as i had to actually control how often i drew. spice increases again, bringing a slight pepper on exhale and a hint of a cedary oak on the tongue.

final thoughts: if i were going to try and imagine what was going through the minds of the oliva family, they meant this cigar to sit. and age. and grow to the fantastic caliber that it truly is. I'm not saying steal it form a friend, but this is one of my most favorite cigars, not only for the means of procurement, or the fantastic packaging, but for the outstanding product that was put out!
