  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I have an olive tree that is quite a nuisance; it is poorly placed and is starting to overtake my orange trees. The thing shats droppings over my backyard faster than my dogs, and it is time for it to go.

The damn thing is probably 75 years old, and as bad as my green thumb feels... its got to go. Is there value in removing this for pipemakers? I'm sure there is a unique prep process of which am blissfully unaware. I would like it to be used for something... suggestions?

That would be sweet if you could have a pipe made from the tree that was in your backyard.
Also, I was oblivious to the fact that boiling wood would help dry it. Learn something everyday!

We had a gigantic olive tree in our yard growing up...I completely empathize with those purple crap-berries (that permanently stain anything) raining down like a plague.
Would be really cool to be able to make a pipe from the wood, or anything, really, from a tree that old.

A pipe, a bunch of ashtrays, tampers, knife handle scales, etc, etc.

Is olivewood good for pipemaking?

I think I'd like to "gosser du bois" like we say up north in the french world of Québec, and make a pipe... but online documentation talks mainly about briar.
