  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Anybody watch the opening ceremony?

I thought it was kind of cool, a little long as usual. I hope the audience got their moneys worth, the Chinese only spent $300 million on the show.

Looking froward to watching boxing, and ballroom dancing (maybe not). I can't believe that is actually an Olympic sport.

Opening ceremony was fantastic. I enjoyed the artful representation of Chinese culture and history. Political too, without rubbing your face in it.

I look forward to swimming, the men's 100, and women's beach v-ball (ow-ow!)

im' pulling for phelps to become the worlds greatest Olympic athelte EVER!

I also enjoyed the women's paired diving...expecially when they srtat backwards on the diving boards. The camera gives a great shot of two nice atheltic arses. :hearteyes And then 2 more women get up and do the same thing...and then two more...it was awesome. I have no idea who won!

Absolutely insane finish on that relay. I couldn't believe it. I was already writing Phelps shot at X-straight medals by the time the anchor entered the water. That was exciting as hell.

Oh, and yeah, women's synchro is always nice.

ah, women's synchronized diving...couldn't think of the official name for it. "Stare at Both Our Arses While we Dive Together" probably isn't to politically correct anyhow.

I missed the opening cermonies, but honestly I think the price tag, no matter how cool the ceremonies is rediculous. 300 million?!?!?!?! That's 10x more expensive than the previous most expensive opening ceremonies. And we are looking at a country with a billion people living on $2 a day. But I guess if you just dock everyone 50 cents of thier pay one day, it's paid for.

Other than that, I watched some of the 12 and 13 year old Chinese Gymnasts do thier thing. I say that with a bit of sarcasm as they are all suppposed to be 16, but they sure do look young. I thinkg they end up beating the US over all, but we may have a individuaa Gold from our team.

I'll agree dave, the price tag was crazy expensive, espcially when you factor in all the behind the scenes stuff that went into China hosting the Olympics. Building walls to hide the slums during the torch relay. Tearing down houses and villages to build the new Olypic centers, and not helping the people find new homes.

However, despite all the bad things like that, this is revolutionary for China in that they are expsoing themselves for all the world to see. hell, it wasn't unitl 1974 i believe, that they even attended the Olympics, and here they are, 34 years later, hosting them. I think they're kind of saying "Hey, here we are and here we come, onto the world stage. Like us or not, we're here."

Personally, while i don't agree with everything they do, i certainly think the US would be wise to befriend them as they continue to present themselves as a world leader and power. I want them on our side...all 546,225,154,876 of them

And of course, the world leaders saw them coming quite some time ago when they chose/allowed/granted china to host.

if the french were favored, it should not be considered a sport and you dont have to be an athlete to win.
