The look of this cigar is a little rough with some visible seams and a couple distinctive veins running through it. The wrapper is dark and oily with some light tooth. The pre-light aroma of the body of the cigar is that of alfalfa, cedar and tobacco. The aroma from the foot is very musty.
The first few draws are nice, good smoke production and a good amount of resistance. The body and strength are medium. First draw flavors are earthy with some cedar and a bit of black pepper spice. The finish is very light. The first third continues with a nice draw and perfect burn. It's a dry, earthy smoke. Sweeter flavors of coffee and caramel linger on my lips and the finish is getting longer. The second third of the smoke is unpleasant, lots of musty, barnyard flavors with ammonia. I'm thinking about putting this cigar down down soon. A few minutes later I put the cigar down as it is leaving really unpleasant flavors in my mouth and it's beginning to taste like smoking cigar ash. Really disappointing.
This is the second Omar Ortez Original I have smoked this week. The first cigar was a slightly larger vitola, and while I was underwhelmed with that stick I finished the entire smoke. I bought two of these sticks from the same local B&M hoping to find a new inexpensive daily smoke. After not being able to even finish today's smoke it's not likely I'll be returning to this brand.
