I had tried a fiver of La Palina Black Label from CigarPage.com, liked them, decided to buy a box. Checking prices there for a box of 20, you can buy the box for $136, or just choose to buy "20 cigars" for $61. I've run into similar before when buying LFD Double Ligero Chisel Maduro on CigarPlace.biz (no box) but it's much less of a price difference (when I asked them they said they send the boxes back to LFD for a discount).

So what's going on at CigarPage to have such a drastic price difference? I can understand the sending the box back for a discount, assuming that's true. Are the cigars the same quality or similar enough not to matter? I don't need the boxes so that's not an issue but thought I'd ask the experienced folks here for explanation/advice.

That’s weird... I’d be worried about the cheaper bundle without the box being seconds or lower quality batches

Let me tag a well known vendor maybe he knows more

Some manufacturers sell retailer "refills" (forgot the term they use) that are quality cigars in bundle format used to refill display cases and boxes. The discount on the La Palina is pretty dramatic so there may have just been a sale on the bundled cigars. I understand that the cost of the box adds $5 - $7 to the cost of the cigars. As materials and labor become more expensive I think you'll find more quality smokes available in bundle format.

I follow some of these companies on You tube and they claim that by buying in bundles and not in boxes that get the cigars for much cheaper. They aren't paying for the fancy packaging and probably can ship them cheaper. The same also is sometimes done at ur local shpo. They buy unboxed cigars and refill the boxes at the shop.

The fancy packaging isn’t more than a few bucks tho. Nothing but cheap cedar and some printing on top

Yes, that doesn't explain a $75 difference on a $136 box of cigars.

I’ve bought from Cigar Page, Cigarbiz, Bestcigarprices (LFD specifically) and the cigars are no different than anywhere else.
As for the La Palina it may sound more authentic that the steep discount was due lack of packaging. Have you searched around to see what others are selling them for? Maybe the box price is inflated.

CigarPage is not buying directly from the manufacturer, they’re taking stock that other vendors are selling off at a loss, and reselling them to consumers.

That explains a lot. Random sizes and heavier discounts on certain brands.

Seems if they were doing that, they would still have the boxes. Unless they are buying just a few sticks of leftovers from other vendors here and there and re packaging/bundling. Seems like that would take a lot of someone's time to do that. Think I'll give them a call/chat next week and ask them to explain. I'm happy to get a deal, and that they can be successful, but I don't want a cigar that hasn't been taken care of or that is some kind of reject.

You can get that from any vendor. I haven't had a problem with Cigarpage.

I really like cigar page. They have some pretty good deals that rotate frequently, especially if you are not dead set on a preticular vitola.

box for $136, or just choose to buy "20 cigars" for $61.
    some one just screwed up.
why would a manufacturer bother to make and sell two different price/qualities of the same stick at the same time to the same vendor?
I get the "second " idea, this is not the same thing.

By the time you put the time and effort into this you could have 2 boxes of them from Famous or CI. Just buy them somewhere else, otherwise you’ll be questioning why why why instead of enjoying the damn cigar.

The refill bundles are a thing. I've tried to get boxes sent along from famous and Holts and they both said sorry, these shipped without boxes, we don't have boxes for them.

    You mean similar prices?
    Sometimes.
I saw it with triunfador and Ricky deals, but I'm sure there have been others.
But I do think a lot of what CP sells is other vendor liquidation or distributor overstock.

So most of famous stuff comes without boxes or is there an option to get boxes?

I’ve only ordered full boxes from sbc and they always came with a box

They sell both boxed and unboxed. And they don't have boxes for the bulk of them it seems. It appears that a lot of the main brands are sold to them in pre celloed five'rs probably in bundles of 25, same goes for the other larger online vendors. I don't know how many of the smaller boutique brands distribute that way.
