Stick: Onyx Reserve Box Press (Maduro)
Price: $8
Venue: Local B&M
Last night, I picked this stick out in the walk-in humidor at a local B&M. An in-law wanted to vent about some issues, and I figured it was a prime opportunity to get out for a smoke during a weeknight.
:thinkidea
Pre-light impressions: The stick had a tart, sweet-smelling wrapper. The wrapper was smooth, solid, and somewhat bumpy in parts. You can sort of tell in the crappy cell picture I took. There were no visible blemishes and the cigar had a good, hefty feel to it.
Post-light impressions: A somewhat tight draw loosened up considerably after the first half and some crushing of the head. Flavor was sweet, with traces of leather, nuts, and what seemed to be "molasses". Or at least that what I'd imagine molasses to taste like - thick, syrupy, and sweet. Heavier than pancake syrup. The ash held on very tightly and came off in large, barrel-shaped chunks. The cigar was pleasant throughout this point.
As I came down to the last quarter of it, the cigar then decided it was going to punch me in the gut. It put me in my place, and forced me to step out for some fresh air. Could've been the fact that the B&M was full at this point with a haze of smoke that would make Cheech & Chong gag, but I'll blame it on my inexperience and the fact I took on a hefty maduro. Made it home, hosed off in the shower Rambo-style (remember the scene where John Rambo's arrested and "cleansed" in the local jail?), and crawled into bed whimpering, but satisfied.
Vinny -> :boxing: <- Onyx
I'd definitely try this one again, but in the open air and with Jack Daniels in my corner.
