Fuente Fuente Opus X Love Affair (2009)
This review is a comparison between a Love Affair I smoked six months ago (thanks George!!!) and one I smoked this past monday evening.
The pre-light scent was generally sweet and the pre-light draw was of raisins and cherries ... would have been a pretty decent start if there hadn't been glue smears and a wrapper gap at the foot.
The first third was odd ... started with medium spice, wood and vague sweetness. Ran into some draw issues that resulted in a bitter, salty flavor. After the hip of the bulb the spice came on BIG TIME!!! The end of this third saw a few puffs of really nice citrus.
Second third was solidy woody with a light spice. There were a few bizarre puffs where I got salty, soft pretzel, but otherwise consistent but boring.
The final third saw the wood become a little creamier and a little pepper joined the spice. We're still relatively "consistent" but rather then bored I'm getting irritated. I've yet to get any of the sweet honey flavor I get from pretty much all Opus (notes say I got it from the first one I smoked).
At the end of the day I was pretty disappointed with this little smoke. It's an Opus ... it's a perfecto ... should have been a home run. The first one was a good little smoke that should have gotten better with time but this one was just a let down.
