Well, I have an Opus X Perfection X in my locker, but someone just slapped this baby on me this week and he has had it for a while.
The weird thing about it is that some many people HATE on Opus or say it's their go to. I add some sticks to my locker, grab my cutter and flame and join the guys. One guy starts to shake his head and says "those cigars are just too strong; they literally make me sweat." Well, before I can tell him that my 9 year old niece and I can finish his stash I decide to let it go and spark. After all, I have an hour before I have to leave and it was part of the reason I choose this stick.
Pre-light draw and aroma are pretty interesting. I am picking up on a sweetness, cedar and raisin maybe? I dunno, it smelled good. Draw seemed much better than the Hemingway Short Story, which I did not care for. This smells and tastes much better.
Anyway, I torch the thing, making sure not to over-light and the burn started out uneven. DEFINITELY my fault. Of course, this ends up being moot for two reasons.
1) My mouth is suddenly filled with smoke that is rich, spicy, and full-bodied, but savory sweet.
2) Before the passing the bulb the burn turned razor sharp. WOW. I really had to fight the urge to start messing with it.
For a little fella, he puts out a decent amount of really aromatic smoke. Even the smoke is putting of a sweetness that is pleasant.
A spirit, preferably bourbon, would go great with this cigar. The smoke almost halfway and the flavors are at full blast. People have mentioned nutmeg and molasses; i didn't get any of that. What I did get was spice moving to the rear and sweet cedar and big tobacco on point. A really pleasurable combo.
How good? I am fantasizing about that Opus X and a bottle of Bourbon for Christmas to keep in my locker during winter break.
I nubbed it till the very end and enjoyed every puff!
sorry about lack of picks, left my phone in the car.
I knew these were going to be good because the BOTL who passed me the X Perfection X has excellent taste in sticks and friends.
