  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I recently Got a hold of a few really special Opus x cigars called the P u s s y cat. These cigars were available at one of the Holts storefronts and i was fortunate enough to get them from a really good friend. This is easily the smallest opus i have ever smoked. I am not sure of the exact size. I don't have a measuring tape but it's a stout little petit corona, maybe a 40-42 ring gauge and about the length of the love affair. Very small. Anyways here we go....

Pre light

The pre light aroma was full of sweet sweet tobacco mixed with some barnyard and cinnamon. The pre light draw brought on strong flavors of cinnamon and pepper. The draw was perfect!

1/3

I was expecting this to be a spicy smoke but it wasn't at all. There was very little spice in the opening. But where there was little spice there was TONS of wood and pepper. The pepper hit me like a rock! There was also a hint of cinnamon on the finish as well but the main thing about it was the pepper and it just lasted forever! A good 25-30 seconds after every puff you could feel the pepper just trickle down and scratch your throat. I even sneezed like 3 times as a result of retrohaling. I mean loads of pepper! But besides that there was a nice mellow woody flavor that was very pleasant.

2/3

As i progress into the second third, the flavors of the first third just aren't letting up. Pepper, wood, pepper and more pepper! There still isn't much spice through the nose but just a hint to give it some added power. This was definitely a Medium to full bodied smoke. Don't let the size fool you, it packs a serious punch. There was so much pepper that i actually wanted to put the stick down for a while but i kept going...

3/3

towards the 3/3 is where i started to really enjoy this cigar. The pepper died down considerably and it just got much smoother. I also started to get some nice leather flavors out of it. Still lots of wood as well as some nice creamy notes.

Final thoughts...

Until the last 3rd this cigar was a serious pepper bomb! It was like a wildcat stuck in a cage and by the final 3rd it just decided to give up and settle down. I Enjoyed it all the way through but the amount of pepper in the beginning was just too much. It will be interesting to see what some age will do to this stick. It could have the potential to really shine. Overall i enjoyed this stick i just think the morning was the wrong time to smoke it.

Cool. Looks like a demi corona. I heard somewhere that they were called "pussycats" because they were supposed to be milder than other Opuses.

That might actually be correct. It was probably medium to slightly full bodied but the pepper was so intense that it might have altered my perception of it's strength.

I heard that they called it a Pussy Cat as a joke. There is supposed to be more ligero in this blend than the normal Opus so it should be quite a lot stronger. Just what I heard...

Cool review, I've never even heard of this vitola. That's REALLY small, which is cool, but how much does it cost? I like small sticks, but I also don't pay a ton for them because to me it's not worth 80% of the cost of a typical cigar for 50% of the smoking time (at best).
