  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Others have told me its one of the strongest of the opus X's, so I will likely have to give it some age so it doesn't overwhelm my palate like the last Perfexcion x I tried

Very likely.
I haven't smoked any nc's, let alone an opus x, in over a year so I'm certainly not used to the kind of power found in the opus X's, since no cc's even come close.

Used to smoke them regularly about 10 years ago, but have only had a few since then.

I just don't want to waste it by smoking young and having it be too overwhelming to my palate.

Tossing it before its finished would be rude to the generous gifter in my opinion.

I'm planning to stash it in my tupperdoor of aged Cigars I have been generously gifted recently and give it a few years to hopefully mellow out a bit

if you are sensitive to nicotine, smoke it after supper on a full stomach with a sweet beverage. Sweet iced tea or a Coke should work well. Smoke it slowly with slow short draws. Keep sugar handy. If you begin feeling signs of nic sickness, let some sugar dissolve under your tongue.

The Opus xXx is nothing to be afraid of smoking.'Smoke it and enjoy it or just look at it for years. That's for you to decide. How do you know it's hasn't already been aged for many years? If you are curious, why not ask the guy that gave it to you, so you will know? I'm sure he wouldn't mind giving you the cigars history. I doubt he would mind.

I'm not at all sensitive to nicotine as I'm a 30 year cigarette smoker.

I did ask the gifter and he had no idea on age. Everything he sent may not have been from his stash, but a Collection of nc's from several forum members. I don't really know.

I dont want it to be too strong to enjoy and finish it as I would consider that rude to the gifter, so I think I'm going to sit on it a few years

There ya go! A plan in motion. When you smoke it I hope you enjoy it.

i bet if you smoked it after dinner and didn't rush it, you would be fine.

Yeah, I think it's the best course of action for it.

I would have no issues with the nicotine from it, that I can easily handle, its the taste being so strong that its overpowering and I'm unable to pick up any taste other than super strong tobacco

Have you ever considered treating gifted cigars for beetles? Especially since they came from any number of people.

Actually never have and have never had a problem using lots of different sources.
I'm able to keep the temperature under 70 degrees with ease.
Also don't have any way to do it here at the veteran's home. No refrigerator or freezer

You might think about keeping them in a different setup for a couple of weeks. just a suggestion. You seem to be building a nice selection of cigars and I'd hate to see them ruined.

For what it’s worth I had a nearly ROTT XXX not too long ago and did not find it overpowering at all. In fact quite the opposite, and I smoke mostly CC.

Definitely good advice that I really should follow. A beetle outbreak in my Collection would be devastating.

Will pick up another tupperdoor when I get my navy pension on the first, and start isolating new smokes for a while to be safe.

Plus I try to give everything at least a month to rest and acclimate after receiving them anyway.

Thanks for the advice

Very interesting as most seem to consider it to be the strongest of the opus X's.

Especially since like me, you smoke mainly cc's, which has no offerings that I'm aware of that come anywhere close to the strength of any opus x

Definitely going to give it a few years to hopefully mellow out some before smoking, as I would hate to not be able to handle the strength of the taste and waste it. I would consider that rude to the generous person who gifted it to me

Well, to each their own, but I wouldn’t over think it. Someone saying Opus X are strong, sure, but it’s still a Fuente. Plenty of other sticks out there that I would consider “strong”. And Opus X is not one of them.

Again, mostly a CC smoker here.

Thanks for your input. It's definitely appreciated.

I'm a long time big Fuente fan for sure and have smoked a lot of them and have found every one to be enjoyable.

Even went to Casa Fuente when I was in Las Vegas years ago and loved it.
Only Cigar lounge I have ever been to and they had tasty drinks, relaxed atmosphere and every AF I could imagine in their humidor.

Even met Carlito Fuente there and he hung out with me at my table for about an hour just bs'ing.
Great guy, seems to genuinely appreciate his fans.
Even took a couple pictures with me and autographed my limited run bottle of jack daniels they were selling for charity, and I was never a dark liquor drinker.
All around great experience. Would love to go back one of these days
