  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

This was actually the first cigar from a blind taste test sent to me.

My “review” will be basic as I am not experienced enough to pick out or discern all the various flavor profiles that people talk about. But I know whether I like a particular cigar or not, and I guess that is the important part right.

I went out of order and picked a smaller one since I didn’t have a lot of time. I started with #4.

As far as construction, it seemed very well made although it did have a slight rip/crack in the wrapper. It was located right about were the band was so I suspect maybe removing the band was the issue or maybe it happened in shipping, either way it did not have much of an affect while smoking. The cigar did swell quite a bit in that area and cracked more when the burn got that far, however I was about done with it by then, so no real issue. I will probably let the others rest in the humi for a few more days.

The burn was good although it did require a couple of touch ups, I think this was caused more from the initial light rather than the cigar itself, as I was having some technical difficulties with my lighter.

Overall I enjoyed this cigar. I thought that it was smooth and mild to medium in flavor, not one dimensional but not especially complex either. In body (strength) it seemed like it was more on the full side. I am not sure how to explain it, but while smoking it I got the impression or feeling that this was more of a traditional/classic cigar, no fancy new blend or special this or that, just a traditional cigar. I am not sure if that is an accurate description because I don’t have the experience to qualify a smoke as being traditional, but that’s just how it felt to me.

I would certainly smoke more of these, however I would probably not buy a box at this point due to the fact that there is still a lot out there for me to try.

So what was it?
It turned out to be an Opus XXX Belicoso (from March 2009)
