  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Who uses ORECK air purifier ?

Is it worth it ? Makes a difference ? I'm thinking about using it in the finished basement. Folks from The Cigar Authority keep talking about it. I know that ORECK retailer is advertising through their show so who knows how legit is that product.

Thoughts ?

I have a friend with a Rabbit Air purifier for sale. I actually need to get it posted up on here for him. They are amazing.

I've had two different Oreck air purifiers. Both HEPA filters, neither one super-effective. It will help with standing clouds of smoke in a relatively small room, but they are far from air scrubbers.

I bought the Oreck Pro Shield Plus a couple months back, and it was a POS. I left it running all night after smoking in my garage, and when I came out in the morning, it was like nothing had changed.
I have heard them talk those machines up on Cigar Authority as well, so that's what got my interest peaked. Found one at Costco for 220 bones, but took it back after 3 days of playing with it and no progress. The problem is that there is no carbon filter on it. The really good odor scrubbers have a large amount of activated carbon in them causing the air to be cleared of smell.
I would suggest getting some info together before going out and buying something you will regret later. It seems through all my research that the more expensive, the better.
I did install a furnace in my garage last month and put 2 custom made 16x25x2" carbon filters on it in hopes that would make a difference, but it seems that those filters do not collect enough smell to make a major difference. I am going to build a frame to hold about 10 lb's of activate carbon and see how that works. It seems that you need at least 10 lb's to make it worthwhile.
