  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Origen Original by J Fuego (5 x 44 pre-cut perfecto) plus my thoughts on the entire collection.

Here's a little flavor bomb that i forgot that i still had. Its a shame that its the last one because these are really the best cigars that J fuego makes.

I've had this cigar slumbering for close to 8 months at 72% rh and 67 degrees Fahrenheit in my Havana footlocker dungeon.

The burn was a little wonky but caused no problems with only 1-2 minor touch ups for all the originals that i've smoked. The flavor is spicy, woody, earthy, and a dried fruit. The flavor is very distinct and very powerful and i was shocked by how such an ugly duckling could be so enjoyable. Its very well balanced with quite a bit of strength that can surprise you. The strength does seems to decline with time but the flavors remains extremely bold for such a little cigar. This example lasted me 48 minutes and it's a shame that its my last one.

The burn time is consistently around 40 minutes to around an inch left and can be easily nubbed for ~50 minutes. I ash these after 8-10 minutes but the ash usually can last around 3/4 of an inch once you get past the first 1/4 inch.

I bought these as a 25 cigar sampler from Famous and quite frankly it was an excellent purchases that got me to buy the J fuego Vudu jars that are quite frankly just not as good. All the originals have a very similar strength and the flavors are consistently bold. I especially liked the Origen pictured and the Maduro version with the Americana (only one with a band) and Gran reserve being runner ups. The only one i didn't care for was the Sangre de Toro which had a mint type effect on my tongue.

Here's my Vudu collection by J fuego that i'm ashamed to admit that i bought mostly because i wanted the stupid humi-jar with the hipster sticker. J fuego unfortunately is great at blending small ring gauge cigars but his larger sizes lose that special quality that the originals possess.

Thanks for taking the time for the review. But I have to say after smoking several in the J Fuego line, including the Origen, they ranked amoung the worst tasting cigars I have ever smoked. Never again.
But that just means more available for you to enjoy!

I definitely understand why you thought they were turds because if you don't dig the flavors offered then you're screwed because J fuego Original's collection tends to share a similar flavor and strength profile. They are bold, flavorful little cigars with quite a bit of strength and for the price i don't think they can be beaten. The problem is that if you don't like cigars that are strong, bold, and spicy then these are definitely not for you.

People who like smooth, elegant, refined flavors, with subtle complexity, or transitions then the Originals are not for you. Basically the Originals collection is best described as Ketchup or a Pickle (cucumber). Its not elegant or refined but its a strong flavor that assaults your entire palate.
