It is 9:09 PM PDST on Friday and by all accounts, it has been one helluva week.
So, I have put on a pot of coffee and have retrieved from my overflow humi, a Origen Double Corona. While I am waiting for the coffee to brew I am admiring this stick through the cello.
Well the coffee is done brewing and it is time to pour me a cup and retreat to the deck and take a mini vacation. I am sitting under a clear sky chock full of stars and I am tankful to God for the rich blessings of His creation.
I remove the stick from the cello and I inspect this lovely mocha wrapper with nary a vein. I sniff the foot and I pick up earth and cocoa.
I take my Palio to the head and I am almost ready to partake. The pre-light draw is filled with cocoa and molasses.
Well, I torch the foot and the stick starts like a charm. The first draw was kind of dry but...the next one was oh so much better. My mouth filled with a good volume of smoke and I tasted berries and cocoa.
First Third:
Somewhat medium bodied. Plenty of thick almost chewy smoke. Predominate flavor is cocoa with just a hint of spice. The flavors are intensified on the retrohale.
About a half an inch in and the complexity kicks in, I am picking up the taste of raisins mixed with cocoa, a kinda funky combination but, I ain't mad at Jesus Fuega for this!
BTW: I am drinking Maxwell House straight so as to not confuse the taste buds.
The ash is holding steady so far. It's a dark gray somewhat whispy ash.
Damn this stick is good so far!
I may have spoken too soon, the ash just fell in my lap
Still not enough to take points way from this wonderful mini vacation.
Uh oh, the flavor is changing again. It's a sweet berry like taste which mixes well with the cocoa.
Second Third:
To start with i am sensing a bit more spice which is muddling the berry taste in a good way. The draw is superb and the oils have mixed to provide an even greater mouth feel.
It is sticks like this which help me to understand the qoute attributed to Mark Twain regarding the permitting of smoking in heaven. This is one heavenly stick!
The flavor profile had turned to simply dark chocolate and tobacco. The stick has me saying OMG! Deep, rich, chewy chocolate nougat is how I would describe what I am experiencing in my mouth. My taste buds and nasal passages are having a party with the complex cornucopia of flavors.
My only regret with this stick is that I did not pick up more than one. I will have to head back up to Tobacco Road and connect with CA Joe and pick up a 5er. For if the next couple smoke like this I will be picking up a box!
Hot damn! Another flavor has entered the party. Why it's Cara as in rich caramel. Yummy.
Third Third;
Flavors are chocolate and caramel and the spice is muted and the cigar is heading for the home stretch. I have removed the band and have blown waaaaaay past what the lady noted as being good cigar ettiquete (see earlier post).
The body of this stick is intensifying as it nears the nub. I have had to slow down as too not get the "hot box effect".
Final Thoughts:
This was a truly phenomenal stick, one that I highly recommend. The while time it maintained an excellent burn line, did not require a touch up or re-light.
Well, whatever troubles the week wrought, this stick helped wash them away. And for that, I am truly grateful.
Thank you for tolerating an old man and I pray that you too find the time this weekend to partake in an awe inspiring mini vacation courtesy of an awesome vitola of your choice.
Good night and God Bless!
