  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Paul (smokinbodybuilder) and I were inspired by a recent review by Justin (Jolietilfire) and Warren (W.B.) where they did a dual review write-up on BOTL. There are two cigars found within the Commemorative 911 box. We posted a review earlier for the Rosado cigar:

Again, with the upcoming BOTL HERF being hosted by Casa de Montecristo (http://casademontecristo-chicago.com/) we thought it would be appropriate to revisit the B&M’s two Limited Edition cigars that were released on August 5, 2011. There are actually a few boxes still available if any BOTL are interested in picking up a few this weekend.

Here’s some additional information about the cigar release:

In tribute to the fallen heroes of 9/11 and in the spirit of remembrance, honor and hope My Father Cigar Company and Casa De Montecristo join to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the 343 fallen Firefighters of 9/11. Presenting our special limited production blend of My Father Cigars, with 9 Ecuadorian Habano Rosado and 11 Nicaraguan Habano Oscuro in each box. 343 Boxes were produced to honor the 343 fallen Firefighter Heroes.

This whole process has been very secretive; Jeffrey Holst, a Battalion Chief from Firehouse No. 1 in Lombard, IL brought to us the idea of doing something special to commemorate the 343 fallen Firefighters of 9/11. We approached Jaime Garcia with this idea and he graciously accepted to blend and create this highly special extremely limited cigar, each box will contain 9 Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapped cigars and 11 Nicaraguan Habano Oscuro wrapped cigars. The size best described as a Toro 5 1/2" x 54. This will be a special size created by Jaime just for this cigar. $40.00 from the sale of each box will be donated to a designated charity of the fallen heroes of 9/11, these cigars are rich complex with medium to full body, everyone will enjoy, so buy them while they last.

prelight and uncut impressions

Jdog – another great looking cigar from a construction perspective but with more visible veins than the Rosado.

SBB – fig newton and raison flavor during my pre-light cold draw.

1st third flavor and description

Jdog – immediately met with a bitter cocoa taste, but more on the bitter continuum compared to other smokes with this taste profile. There is also some pepper. Similar to the Rosado it has a perfect burn line. About an inch into the cigar I’m getting a dry finish.

SBB – getting a musky tobacco taste

2nd third flavor and description

Jdog – transitioned to a slight sugar sweetness with a roasted coffee taste profile. Cocoa taste is still present but taking a major back seat. There is no pepper. I’ve already finished about half of a water bottle due to a very dry finish.

SBB – get the same tobacco flavor. Not very excited about the smoke and not as good as the Rosado.

final third flavor and description

Jdog – the sweetness is no longer present and initially has the same flavor profile as the 2nd third. As I smoke further into the final third getting the same bitter cocoa flavor as the first third, but with slightly less bitterness. The pepper is also back. The burn line is still perfect. I’m enjoying this part of the cigar the most.

SBB – the best puff I took on this cigar was before I ever even lit it. All the sweetness I got in the pre-light draw, I’m not getting any of it. I’m just getting a musky tobacco with a faint underlining of dry cocoa taste.

overall

Jdog – Due to the perfect burn line, I don’t think the bitterness is the result of storage. I also don’t think it is the result of tar build-up since the bitterness is present through-out. I think it has something to do with the actual blend. The final third is the most enjoyable part of the cigar. If it wasn’t for the dry finish, I would have enjoyed the cigar a lot more. I definitely enjoyed the Rosado more and as I think about that Rosado smoke, it somewhat reminds me of a well aged Bad To The Bones Pepin blend that was released by Outlaw Cigar in 2007, which I’ve smoked recently.

The Oscuro was just OK.

SBB – It’s OK. I couldn’t even finish the Oscuro when it first came out. At least I can finish it now. I like the Rosado better.
