  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

On to the show. All pics taken with my iPhone.

It sure looks pretty, IMO Opus X has the best bands going, but as it is said, we don’t smoke the band. The cigar itself had a thick, thoothy wrapper. The were no visible veins. The only issue I had in looking at such a small stick with two large bands was it seemed to be a greater than average amount of what looks to be glue/resin used to adhere the labels. Overall I don’t think this has any bearing on who the cigar will taste or smoke.

Prelight draw you usually get the typical raisin nut oatmeal taste from Opus X. However, this cigar did not offer the same tastings, it offered up more chocolate and a dash of white pepper.

The only issue I had was when I clipped the head it split a bit. It ended up having no issue on draw or smoke.

Let’s light this little bad boy up. Wow, right from the start, I am hit with an abundance of that white pepper spice. The spice was accompanied with green apple when retro haled through the nose. I loved what this cigar had to open up with apple spice throughout, turning to oak and cocoa. As being with most Opus X I have smoked this one had burn issues. It was a windy day out and that could have added to the burn problem. However, in typical fashion it seemed I had to make several touch-ups.

Ten minutes in time for the Lost City band to come off.

Half way in caramel made itself know to our little smoking party. The spice is still there but lessened. I loved the nice touch of sweetness to the tongue and nose, like the scent of a woman as she walks by. It made the afternoon all that more lovely.

For a cigar this size the ash held up fairly well. For a little over 4 inch cigar the ash held at least half way. I tried going (AJ) Blooze4u style hold on till it falls in your lap but no such luck . It just naturally fell to the ground at my side.

I smoked this bad boy till I could hold it no more. Total smoking time, just over an hour.

I have seen reviews range wildly for this smoke from mid seventies to high nineties. I have smoked several Opus X Love Affairs when they first came out. I enjoyed them then as I still do now. In my opinion this cigar has gotten better as time goes by. I would rate this a solid 93-95 on taste and flavor alone. This is what I’m looking for in a cigar as all the other stuff is just nice to have but what flavor and taste it offers is what makes me want to buy it again.

Excellent review and pics, my friend!

And your final paragraph - I couldn't have said it better myself.

Wonderful flavour is what I look for, and if I owned a cigar company, that's what would be #1 on my list of priorities for the products I'm sending out the door.

Wonderful flavour can make up for many things. I've had cigars that were quite unsightly, but they tasted so damn good I still considered them wonderful.

One of my favorite sizes. Thank you for the review.
This is similar to both Between the Lines and Work of Art, neither being anywhere near my favorite sizes. However, this particular vitola in this size, works just right for me.
