Back in October I was up at Outlaw Cigar and picked up a couple of their house blends. I reviewed the Corojo wrapper already (http://www.botl.org/community/forums/showthread.php?t=44787) and have been waiting for a good time to fire up the Connecticut. Well today was that day. It's a stunningly beautiful 70 degrees today, hard to believe in a few days we're slated to be getting a wintery mix of precipitation :crying:. Anyway, after doing a few things around the house I decided to take the dogs for a walk. Since it was still early in the day I was hunting for a milder cigar and the Outlaw Connie practically smacked me in the face...
This cigar measures 6 x 52. According to the website, it's a Dominican blend and sports a smooth (think freshly shaved legs :hearteyes), light tan wrapper. The wrapper on this particular cigar is peeling some towards the foot, the result of being jostled around in my humidor for the last several months. It feels just a touch lighter than I'd expect for a cigar this size, but seems well packed. The aroma coming off this cigar is a pleasant grassy, slightly sweet tobacco. Skinned the cap with my guillotine and was met with a perfect draw. Flavors were a light, grassy tobacco. Torched it up, hooked up the dogs, and away I went.
Immediately the flavors were a dry, grassy tobacco with a slight nuttiness on the finish. After a few puffs, a pleasant creaminess developed and soon thereafter a roasty flavor/aroma was present through the nose. All in all a great start to this stick. The burn was a bit wavy at the start and got worse as it approached the loose section of wrapper. Nothing that really needed to be touched up, but most people probably would have (as would I had I not had three dogs trying to go every which way :laugh
. I wish I would have been able to take pics of how it burned because it was really pretty interesting. About half way through the peeling wrapper a few small splits started, but didn't go very far. By about half way though the stick you'd have never known there was any problem to begin with...the burn was sharp. The flavors remained consistent up until about the half way point when the nuttiness morphed into more of a woodiness. Unfortunately the flavors seemed to dull in the last third, but by then I had returned home so I tossed it in the ashtray and headed inside.
Overall I found this to be a pretty good stick. The burn was great despite the issues I had, which were not really the fault of the cigar as it was damaged in my care. The flavors were good, though I wish they hadn't dulled toward the end. To date this is probably my favorite Connecticut wrapper cigar . I paid $7.00 for this cigar which is a little pricey in my opinion, but I bought a single and if you buy them by the box they work out to a much friendlier $5.60 a cigar ($140/box 25). You can only get these at Outlaw Cigar Co, so if you're ever in the area or have the chance to...I'd recommend giving them a spark.
