  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

    Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Padilla 8/11 differences?

Has anyone noticed a difference between the padilla 8/11 from 2006 and the fresher ones?

I have a choice between the two boxes at the smoke shop. I noticed in the 2006 box the smokes look a little bit smaller and the box has a limitada label. Did they change the blend at all? Did the quality increase or decrease? Any experience with the new and old?

i think the older ones had some wrapper issues, but don't quote me on this. If the wrappers look good then i say go for the older ones. I just smoked a 2006 belicoso that Steve gifted me a few weeks back and it was very nice. It had mellowed out alot compared to the box i just got in 08. Then again if you like the in-your-face pepin spice/punch then maybe go for the 08. Either way i dont think you can go wrong

The 2006 even look tastier. Some of the caps and feet have cracks but the 06 have a more reddish tint to the wrapper. I compared the two and the 06 is just a little bit smaller. Do they shrink when they age? They have been kept in the same conditions.

I was concerned because the 2006 look so different and have a limitada label on the box that they may have changed the blend or somthing. I guess I am just gonna have to smoke one of each to find out. I will keep you guys updated on how this goes.

I am still open to peoples experience and info.

I was hearing about it last fall at my shop. The official release from CA was in Feb. I'm pretty sure they were late on reporting that one, though. I would say that anything that you can say was the first half of last year is definitely his. I don't think he blended last years crop for them is basically what I'm saying.

I got both boxes. The newer one has the ERH stamp on the bottom with no date inside. Interesting.

I would also like to add that they are both friggin awesome. They taste very similar. I would guess they are both Pepin's.

I will do my best to get some pics up here.
