  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Padilla Miami 8&11 belicoso (pepin made)

pre-light inspection:
Very light colored wrapper
Minimal veins
very feint smell i can't put my nose on
foot just smells of tobacco

First third:
First puff has a nice sweetness to it and a light pepper in through the sinuses
The next few puffs that sweetness comes out more but the pepper stays on the back of the tongue and is renewed each time I retrohale

Second third:
The sweet taste is gone but i'm left with a very creamy texture covering my pallete
Bringing in this third was strong notes of roasted nuts
around the halfway point the pepper has died off completely and i'm left with a nice mixture of leather, nuts, and a slight earth combined with a finish that's still creamy

Final third:
The spice came back for a few puffs and then left again
The rest of the stick is earthy and leathery

Conclusion: To me this was a very good full-bodied medium strength stick, although I was disapointed in the final third backing off in the flavor department.
It was still enjoyable at this point but no where near as much so as the first two thirds. I would gladly smoke this stick again if I had anymore.

Was the cigar pepin made or the latter 8&11 with the new bands?
The current Padilla Miami is just called ... Padilla Miami, they dropped the "8&11" when it was no longer made at Pepin's factory (which is on the corner of 8th and 11th in Little Havana, Miami).

So any bands that say "8&11" are the old ones (red and black).

And nice review, by the way! These are awesome, imvho, and have aged well

I bought a box a few years ago. I tucked them a way for a year an now smoke one every couple months. Each time they get better then before. Bought a box of the 1932s and the have turned out real nice.

Just making sure. I know of people who still refer to the new ones as 8&11's and it drives me nuts.
