Today is my 1 year anniversary on BOTL . It also happens that today was freakin' gorgeous outside. I poured myself a drink, Crown with coke, and went about selecting a cigar. I felt today called for something a little more "top shelf" than my usual fare. So...
Yep, a Padron 1964 Anniversary Maduro...aka PAM '64 . This is the Principe which measures 4.5 x 46. Beautiful chocolate colored wrapper with an oily sheen. Minimal veins, though the seams look a tad loose and the cap has been sloppily applied. Feels well packed and the wrapper carries a dry earthy aroma.
I snipped the cap with my double guillotine and the shoulder of the cigar came off as well :sadstare:. That hasn't happened in a good long while. However the wrapper shows no signs of wanting to unravel on my so we'll see how it does. The draw is perfect and carries a medium tobacco flavor with a touch of clove like spice.
Toasted easily and gives rise to flavors of light tobacco with some spice through the nose.
The burn at first is a little wonky, but soon puts itself right. While not razor sharp, it burns straight for the duration of the cigar. The smoke output is excellent.
Ash holds strong and is a nice white color. The flavors have become more complex with an earthy flavor dominating followed by a little unsweetened chocolate on the finish. Through the nose there is a mixture of light spice (cloves I think) and nuts.
Flavors have changed a little bit, the clove spice has dissipated leaving a slight nutty flavor through the nose that reminds me a lot of graham crackers. The chocolate has ramped up some to join the earthiness. I'm loving this cigar, it's like a Padron x000 on steroids .
Good til the last...
Overall I freakin' loved this cigar. I really can't say more than that.
