It was a nice, brisk morning in NYC today, and I decided to smoke one of these beauties during my walk. For anyone curious, it is from a Feb 2009 box.
These have always been on the cost prohibitive side for me. There have been rare opportunities for me to get a "deal" on any of the Anniversary series, which I try to take advantage of (when financially able). That being said, I've have yet to smoke one and be upset that I paid what I paid for them. Instead, I usually find myself thinking, "I wish I could afford more." The consistency of these cigars, in my experience, has been second to none. Today's was no exception.
Right upon lighting this rugged looking maduro, I was hit with some intense cedar and sweetness. As I smoked through the first inch, I got some cocoa undertones but the intensity of the cedar and sweetness didn't let it. I'd call this a medium bodied cigar with mouth-tingling, full flavor. I couldn't believe, as I progressed through the cigar, how the flavors didn't let up much. Only once I reached about the half way point did the sweetness mellow down and allow the cocoa/dark chocolate to come out a bit more. The cocoa taste never increased to the forefront, but rather just enough to keep reminding me it was still there. The cedar was the lead throughout the entire smoke. From first puff to last puff, cedar maintained dominance over it's rival flavors. The smoke never got too hot (even as I nubbed it), and never let out a hint of harshness. From beginning to end, it produced copious amounts of thick, creamy smoke. It was a little funny to see people give me more "personal space" just to avoid getting caught in the wake of this cigar. It was a great way to start the work day. When it comes to these cigars, all I can really say is, "Smoke'em if you got'em."
Thanks for reading, everyone.
