Craig Mac
BoM 4/10 7/11 12/14
After another beautiful day I figured I would go ahead and do another review out on the deck.
For starters I got this stick as part of the CRA Sampler last year, and from what I can tell this was just the Padron 1964 Anniversary Series Principe Maduro with a CRA band on it. I haven't smoked a lot of the Anniversary Series Padron and the ones I have smoked were mostly with the Natural Wrapper.
The construction is top notch for this box pressed 4.5" by 42 cigar. The single cap left something to be desired as it looked like it was thrown on quick and crooked as well. I debated whether or not to punch it, but just went ahead and clipped it with the Palio. Prelight draw was pretty solid and had the taste of cocoa, coffee and a hint of cedar.
First third - The cigar was off and burning well and producing just the right amount of smoke. A hint of pepper and a hint of cocoa with cedar being the dominate flavour. Started off fairly full bodied and medium strength, and after a couple retrohale's I was reaching for the water bottle as I got a blast of cedar each each time.
Second Third - The pepper has faded a bit and the flavour of cedar is still present with hints of cocoa sweetness creeping in. Cigar is burning/smoking great at this point and is approaching full strength throughout the second third.
Final Third - As the cigar starts to finish it is full strength and the cedar flavour has carried throughout the cigar as well as smooth rich tobacco taste. Only picking up slight cocoa taste at this point as well as a slightly sweet flavour I couldn't put my finger on. I also was finding myself drinking more water to offset the dryness I was getting from the cedar and nicotine. The burn was solid the entire time and only required a slight touchup.
In conclusion I found this to be an enjoyable cigar. I think for the most part the higher price tag of the Anniversary Padrons has kept me away a bit although I have truely enoyed the ones I have smoked. I have found a dominate cedar taste for the most part that I enjoy. Highly recomend this cigar as well as any from the line. I still think I enjoy the 1926 line a bit more but wouldn't turn down either line.
