  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention that this review wouldn't be possible without thanking BoSox55. Evidently his definition of TRADE and BOMBS AWAY are a little blurry. Again, thanks to Steve, I was able to enjoy a cigar I would otherwise not be able to.

Ok, here goes. I don't mind telling you that like most people, as I pull this from my locker I am wondering whether it will live up to the hype and if it's worth the money. You can decide for yourself if you haven't smoked one after this review.

SPECIFICATIONS:
Size: 6 x 52 (Toro)
Origin: Nicaragua
Wrapper: Nicaragua
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua

Appearance and pre-light:

This stick is beautiful and feels perfect in the hand (mine, anyway). The double band is beautiful and this cigar is worthy of such adornment. The red, gold, and black play beautifully off the gorgeous wrapper. I mention this because, like food, tactility and appearance enhances and builds excitement.
I snip the stick, albeit carefully, with my NEW Liga Privada cutter (see accessory thread). Pre-draw is FLAWLESS. Flavors of cocoa and earth are entering my mouth with the perfect amount of slight resistance. The foot is giving off earth and spice and I am itching to spark. I haven't put flame to this but given how solid Padrons are in general and the aromas this bad boy is putting off already, I KNOW it is going to burn perfectly due to impeccable construction.

1/3

Spark with my B&M's Lotus triple flame by first carefully toasting the foot and then lighting up. I have never gotten such distinctly identifiable flavors from from a cigar aside from pepper and spice before this stick. The gates open and I am immediately getting cocoa and roasted nuts. WOW! The burn is absolutely flawless and flavorful smoke abounds. I can already tell that this is going to be a memorable cigar. Draw is PERFECT, just like the pre-draw lead me to believe. Flavors of spice and earth are perfectly balancing the cocoa and nuttiness and really making this cigar something special.

2/3

As you can imagine, and everybody around me can see, I have a shit-eating grin on my face and am just slowly puffing away and enjoying. People are talking, some even to me, and I am listening, but everything is a distant second to my enjoyment of this cigar. The flavors are building and the spice and earth are so pleasant. The cocoa is still there, just fusing together with the other flavors into a wonderful complexity.

3/3

This cigar is not getting harsh or hot, but the flavors continue to build and I am getting some really nice dark coffee and pepper. This cigar is just upping the ante as I get closer to the nub. :frown: Alas, this trip is coming to an end and I know one of the best cigar experiences is coming to a close. Bummer.
The real kick in the head is the B&M is closing and I have been at this thing for 2 hours! (thanks to my BOTL friends who have stressed not over-puffing. You will notice that the last pic was outside....and despite the cold and rain, I am not letting go of this stick till I can smoke it no more. Jenady's nub-stick is in my B&M locker, which is INSIDE the store. No doubt I would have burned my lips had I had his work of art to bleed every last puff of this stick.

Please do not mistake me trying to articulate the pleasure of smoking (trying to, anyway) cigar and reviewing it as hyperbole. It exceeded very high expectations.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Two guys asked me if it was "worth the money" and one asked if I thought it was "the cigar of the year" like CA rated it. Speaking to the first point I can only answer by saying this: I can't afford this cigar, so aside from a very special occasion, I can't justify boxing this on my budget, if my budget can be referred to as such. Is it worth the money? *F* YEAH! Smok'm if you got them, and if you don't like them, pay it forward to a newbie or someone who hasn't had the pleasure of such a smoke.

I haven't smoked enough cigars to say if this is the best cigar of the year or really care what CA says about sticks. I have a much better source, the people on this board.

Sheesh......sorry for rambling. :smokingco

Thanks again, Steve!

Great review! Thanks for sharing!

I had one of these, that I traded for, for my bday this past year. It was phenomenal!! In years past, every birthday, I would smoke a '64 anny, with my Maker's Mark Manhattan. This coming year, I will be trying out a 44 year that Dutch gifted me a while back. Either that, or I will try to score a 46, soon, and may have it for my bday. OR BOTH!

Sorry, now I'm rambling...
Again, thanks for the great review!!
