  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Well, I smoked one of these on New Years Day. Somehow, I got sidetracked on my initial intention of smoking it at the strike of New Years. Oh Well. For those of you living on another plantet, this is the new flagship for the Padron family. Very limited production made only in Maduro and Natural wrappers, although only the Maduros have ben released. My understanding is only one person is able to make this shape in the factory.

Pre-light inspection shows this to be a very dark wrapper with lots of oil. Small veins on the wrapper with a rough feel, much like big pores. Do not the feel fool you though. Scents of pepper, cedar and cocoa exude from this. Taste on the unlit cigar also produced pepper and a earthiness to it.

The cut was a little difficicult due to the shape. I had to cut this three times to find the perfect draw. Once cut, this cigar was incredible even prior to lighting it. After toasting it, i took two pufss and the cigar was running. I never had to use my lighter again.

Flavors of Cocoa, pepper, cedar and leather shined through on this. It is definitely a full/multi faceted flavored cigar. I even tasted black licorice and nutmeg. The draw remained excellent from start to finish and no issues with uneven burn. The only place on the cigar that I had any issue with heat was on the nub and I did not even want to put it down. No heat on the tongue. No problems with the wrapper either. Great blue grey smoke plumed from this cigar and the ash was consistently light grey and had great staying power. This would be an incredible cigar for a longest ash contest.

This has to be one of the smoothest cigars that I have smoked in a long time. Incredible flavors, full bodied, incredible contruction, great taste. On a scale of 1-10, this is a Pure 10.. It will be a tough act to follow.

I had heard about this cigar from things that I have read about with many people saying this would be a perfect 100 score, but I did not believe it. Now I do. It truly is a masterpiece. The only problem with this cigar is the price. With a MSRP of $30 (More like $30-40), it is an expensive stick. It is sold in boxes of 8. I do not see myself going out and buying boxes of this one, but will grab a few for some aging and special ocassion smokes.

Hope the review helps.

Good review.

I'll probably never smoke one of these as they are way out of my comfort zone for the cost of a single cigar and I've heard the strength is about an 8 on a 10 scale. I prefer to enjoy my cigars rather than be overwhelmed by them.

Interesting, but strength is a relative gauge.

Still, I can get a whole box of other favorite cigars ... or several bottles of really good wine for what 2 -3 of these would cost.

When I find a $20 cigar that I rate as a TEN, but find five cigars that cost less than $6 to be rated a NINE, I will probably purchase one or two of the expensive stick, but it'll never be part of my regular rotation of cigars. Cost compared to taste/pleasure received is just a matter of math to me...

Have 3 in the humi. But will probably wait a year. I know the release was delayed because of band issues but they only sat in the factory humi for 6 months. If they are as good as the orignal 40th though they will be worth the time and the price (two at 30 and the mistake of one at 50).

Awesome review Bill. I like how in depth you get...I almost felt like I was smelling it.

I'll hopefully get around to getting one of these someday.

Went back and read this again. Three or four more reads and I am going to be convinced to go against my conventional wisdom and pick up a couple of these.
