  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Palio quality question

Everybody raves about Palio cutters...

Well, my wife kindly purchased one for me for Christmas.

The thing is... The cutter has 'flash' on it. At every seem, and it's sharp.

In the Molding/Tool & Die/Plastics industry, this is a common & highly undesireable side-effect of poor molding.

I've seen better looking $5 cutters.

I'm contacting the vendor about exchanging or upgrading. Do the better models have the same problem? Is this just accepted? I've heard noone complain about this yet.

It may cut brilliantly (which is great), but the look & feel of it should be on the same level for the price.

(I don't think I'm being ungrateful - my wife was first to comment: "This is what I paid for?")

Palio is said to have great customer service. I would contact them and I bet they would give you a replacement.

Mine had a small rough edge, which was easily trimmed with an exacto knife. If yours is really rough, then return it for another. This was never meant to look as cool as some $100 davidoff, or a mammoth Tusk XiKar, but it will cut better, and will keep cutting for years to come.

Dave - that was my first reaction too - I'll trim it with an exacto - it's about function! But after X-mas I inspected it closely & was really taken aback by it, especially right where your fingers go.

I was informed by the vendor that it must be a 'fluke' & that they will hand-select a replacement if I return.

Palio also contacted me immediately to replace it as well. Great service marks so far!
I'll send it out today if I can!

Yes - Marc is the one who contacted me.

My family has been in Tool & Die for the past 50 years. So I have a habit of noticing flash, pin & gate marks, etc.

Mine comes apart on me constantly I don't use it anymore. The cut is awesome but the plastic is crap and just poor quality, IMO... I'll just stick with my xikar which I've had for about 3 yrs and I'm just mastering it now!

ARRRG. Enough shop talk. If you are in Inj Molding, just shave off the flash and carry on. I keep getting flashbacks of trimming seat adjuster covers when I was younger. Yikes.

Just kidding. Best cutter I have ever purchased. No flash on my Burlwood cutter.

Mines smooth as a babies backside as well. It did come apart when I first opened it, thought I broke it, but then realized you just can't crank on it. Funny to watch someone new use it, they all pull it apart. Oh, mines the carbon fiber not Burlwood.

I ordered the carbon fiber model but was sent the black one by mistake. T he black one was kind of rough looking and disssapointing but the carbon fiber one looked very nice with an excellent finish.

Sounds like they made a bad batch.

I have the burlwood and really haven't experienced anything like that. I used to own the base model a couple years ago and didn't have any problems like some have experienced, although the finish left much to be desired...hence the new options. I would say there are many "prettier" options out there in terms of cutters, but the Palio does a damn good job cutting cigars.
