Partagas Serie du Connisieur No. 1, FPG April, 1995

7 ½” x 38

Visual:

This is the oldest Partagas that I have ever had. This ten year old cigar had a very delicate, very thin wrapper. The wrapper was very mottled and somewhat veiny. The foot was somewhat dark, and it had various streaking. The wrapper was somewhat oily, and had a bit of plume on it.

Construction:

The draw was not too firm, nor was it anywhere near full as the Cohiba Robusto I had last night. The cigar burnt perfectly, holding its ash for increments of 2 ½” inches, and burning evenly all the way down. No touching up was necessary at any point in the cigar, nor was any re-lighting, nor was any work necessary at any point in the cigar. If only cigars were made like this today. The smoke was never hot, nor did the cigar get soft as it burnt down.

Flavor:

This cigar was a statement for aging cigars. The cigar had a great depth of flavors, and was very complex. It started out with medium bodied flavors of red bell peppers and tobacco, for which the Partagas line is known for. The flavors slowly built, adding components of nuts and caramel. After half way, sweet citrus notes emerged, very similar to oranges with a hint of lemon. The cigar was extremely pleasant to smoke, full bodied in flavor, but very accessable due to its mild strength. For those who like the Cohiba Lanceros, and those who enjoy the Partagas line, this overlooked gem is definitely recommended. One should go out of one’s way get one’s hands on this tremendous vitola.

Overall:

A testament to aging cigars. The strength and depth of the flavors in this cigar is correspondent to the Montecristo Especiales No. 1 from 1995.
