  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Here is the link to the actual review and pics of the burn:
http://www.cigarpointe.com/cigars/paul-garmirian-symphony-20-review/

Wrapper: Ecuador Colorado Oscuro

Binder: Dominican/Havana Seed

Filler: Dominican/Honduran

Price: $17.00

Vitola: 6 x 52

Drink: Coca-Cola

Appearance & Construction: The appearance is nice and the smooth wrapper is a nice start. The cigar feels like it’s been filled to perfection. The draw is perfect, and it burns perfectly. I don’t think there’s going to be much delving into construction on this cigar, because it’s just simply great. The ash doesn’t quite live up to the rest of the construction. It’s somewhat solid, and has an off-white color with lines of dark grey to black. It’ll stay attached for a while, but don’t expect to smoke even 1/3 with the ash still on. Flakes ever so slightly, but not to a flaw. Wait to take off the bands until absolutely necessary. Maybe it was a fluke, but excessive glue caused the wrapper to tear slightly. It’s nothing that’s deteriorating the enjoyment of the smoke, but it’s a bit of an eye-sore.

Pre-light: The wrapper has no large veins (almost no veins at all), few blemishes, and is incredibly smooth to the touch. Pre-light draw is so interesting I almost don’t want to light it up. I’m picking up chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, and a really, really, clean tasting natural tobacco flavor.

Flavor & Notes:

First Third – There was more spice than I was anticipating, but it’s a very smooth spice. I assumed this would be an ultra-mild stick where you’d have to read into it to even be able to say that you tasted something. Mainly spanish cedar dominates the flavor profile. I don’t know that it is complex at this point, but it’s that ultra-clean taste that I know of lot of smokers like.

Second Third – Still Spanish cedar dominating the overall flavor. It really hasn’t changed much, and keeps that clean crisp taste. Notes of nuts and caramel have started to creep up, but overall remains the same (which isn’t a bad thing at all).

Final Third – Spanish cedar is still apparent, but a pleasant smooth flavor of leather is starting to show up. Caramel is still apparent, but is now more of an afterthought now. The leather flavor continues to build as I start to approach the end of the smoke, and ends up finishing that way.

Body: I think this is where the cigar becomes complex. No, it’s not going to be a full bodied cigar, but there are elements that will satisfy someone wanting a fuller smoke (especially through the nose it shows more strength). The spice keeps it from being a straight medium, but the overall smoothness will keep it from scaring anyone away.

Overall Smoking Experience: Needless to say, I smoke quite a few cigars (all different blends, shapes, sizes, tobaccos…etc). I enjoy them immensely, but it’s rare that I find one that stands head and shoulders above my usual favorites. When you find that cigar, it’s a special experience. The PG Symphony 20 has been that for me. It’s definitely a change from my recent trend of smokes, but this one hit a home run…. a grand slam… a walk off grand slam. Highly recommended for someone looking for a Davidoff alternative. It’s cheaper, and in my humble opinion, superior. It’s got a lot of the same flavor, but I think there is more of it in the PG.

Chooch Factor: This is a tough one. Because of it’s relation with Davidoff I’m forced to give this a 3/5.

Rating: 9.0

Buy Again: Yes, will be my celebratory cigar.

I think a lot of people don't know what they are missing when they pass PG's up. I'll admit their packaging leaves a lot to be desired, but the cigar speaks all for itself. I posted a review of this same cigar awhile back (http://www.botl.org/community/forums/showthread.php?t=49319&highlight=paul+garmirian+symphony) and found it an outstanding cigar. The price tag of $17 doesn't scare me any more and I would pay up the money to smoke these in a heart beat! The only difference I found in these was that it was super stout for my tastes. I was left staggering after smoking it. I bought this stick in Chicago and had it hanging out of my shirt pocket all the way back to Texas before i lit it up. It was well worth the wait.

Absoloutely love PG's.

It was one of my first expensive smokes after graduating from $2 Davidoff seconds while in college.

I had a couple of the Symphonies, but didn't really enjoy as much as the 15 annys.

Great review! Good to know there are other PG aficionados out there :)

Yeah man I agree with you 100%. It's a great cigar people pass up. I'm the only cigar shop in San Antonio that sells this cigar, people don't know what they are missing. And now they are going to release 2 new sizes.
Salomones 6 7/8x57
Short Robusto 4 1/2x52
Looking forward to those.

I will have to put together some paper here pretty soon for those short robos. Getting a little tapped out after buying a bundle of the Tatoos and bundles of the 2009 La Verites Futures. Plus I'm buying the MOAB's and WMD's from ya'll. Good thing I am working a shit ton and making some decent ends

Awesome. I just purchased the futures for the shop. Starting to hold boxes for customers too. I'll let you know when the Viaje comes in.
