  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

So it's a bit of a dry heat in Long Beach and there is almost zero wind so I thought this was a perfect day for a smoke. I looked in the tupperdor and pulled out the PDR as my next victim. I'm not sure but I heard the PDR Habano sun grown was reblended and I think I have one of them and I didn't see a review. Sadly, the pictures I took were no good so I'll use an old one to show how it looks. Enough of that, onto the review.

Pre-light: The cold draw gave a leathery and tobacco flavor.

1/3: The leather stayed with a woody flavor joining in. Very enjoyable.

2/3: Woody takes center stage with a nutty or almond flavor joining in the background.

3/3: I couldn't taste a change but the flavors did step up a notch in strength.

Final thoughts: This is a very enjoyable smoke that I would recommend as a morning smoke paired with coffee or by itself. The cigar itself is very mild so you needn't pay it too much attention and it wont kick your ass or anything. I smoked it while reading "The Red Badge of Courage" and had myself a pleasant noon.

Mild ??!?!!?!?!? Wow, are you sure it was a Sun Grown ? They are full body and full strength ... at least in my book :dunno:

Nice review and thanks for sharing your smoking experience. :thumbsuP;

I personally never viewed them as mild myself.

My favorite PDR is the Clasico Exclusivo. :cbig:

Well my definition of mild is if it doesn't kick my ass and unable to stand up, it is mild/medium. If it does kick my ass and gives me a wicked headrush, it's full bodied!

I had the first of a re-blended box the other night. All I got was pepper all the way through. I'm hoping these will mellow out to reveal some other notes.

I wouldn't have considered this a mild cigar either, but in all fairness I haven't tried the new blend yet (have a new blend torp in my humi waiting to be burned down).

I remember the old blend being fantastic! Very sweet and smooth. A little pepper at the onset and a light pepper background flavor the length of the cigar while the core flavors were honey and brown sugar and rasins with a touch of spice. The flavor profile was consistent throughout the whole stick and it gradually ramped up in strength.
It's one of those smokes where I don't really realize that it has a bit of a kick while I'm smoking it but once I stand up it reminds me.
Overall I'd give this stick a rating of solid medium body and strength. But that's just me. :)

Thanks for the review and I'm looking forward to smoking my new blend PDR SG!

I have a pair of the old blend SGs in my humi that need smoking. Maybe I'll kill one tonight. Thanks for your review.

This is right on the money. I smoked a re-blended sungrown toro last weekend and enjoyed every moment of it. There is a potency there, but it is not an "in your face" nic bomb.
