  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I love these smokes but it seems every one I have had in the last two months had a very fragile wrap. Namely Tats and Pepins.

Has anyone else had wrapper issues with Pepin products?

They are just extremely fragile. Usually the wrapper comes loose in transport. Some I smoke at the shop become loose or crack. Even after a good cut (with xikar) the wrapper comes loose. I am confident in my storage (65% RH).
Some are gifted to me by friends locally. I live in Pittsburgh, it could possibly be the winter weather.Looking at forms of flaw and the various conditions I am smoking in point to poor construction. Just the TAt and Pepin lines. The few Padilla and 601 I put down seemed to be fine. I am not questioning why this is happening. I just would like to know of others experience with these particular smokes?

Yup. Have to be careful with pepin wrappers. Especially since you're in pittsburgh. The cold dry winter air is cracking them, I suppose. I've found them to act well from 60-65%, but swings in humidity (from transport or weather if you're smoking outside) can crack them. They're damn delicious though.

You live in Pittsburgh! Well there you go right there. Cigars have feeling too and they just want to be some place warm with some humidity and where the river is not flammable.

Yes, here in Pittsburgh the only thing that is colder than our football fans is are mutant fish producing river. (Go Steelers)

So you guys think its the weather? Not crappy construction?

All of my other smokes have been fine. I don't see the winter to be bad since I don't smoke outside. I will just have do do some more testing I suppose.

I think it's the weather. I used to live in NEPA. I had some issues in the winter also. Don't sweat it man. Just smoke other cigars till it's warmer and all sorts of humid like it gets in the summer up there.

I haven’t had that problem with the D. Pepin made cigars. It’s sems to me the Cameroon wrappers on some cigars have that tendancy. They seem to tear eaisly. IMO…

All joking aside, (Pittsburgh Geez), when I first got in my Centurions I had a problem with the wrapper when I smoked the first one. I was worried this was going to be an issue for the boxes. Now that they have rested in the humi a while it seems to have gone away. Its possible the site you are buying them from or B&M is under humidfying them. Just a thought.

with the Tatuaje Churchill. I got a box and have had 4-5 have the wrapper come lose before I smoked them. They still taste great, so no isssue there!

No problems at all with the Padilla Miami's, JJ's or Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic or longer Churchill's with the Blue label. OK, I just realized that I have a smoking problem........:)

Good Luck,

Cole

Everyone I know who smokes 'em, including me, finds their wrappers delicate. Usually no problems, but the slightest mishandling or environmental problem causes cracking, peeling, etc.

I actually had one split a little today. I was smoking a Black figurado and it appeared to have a tunnel down the side of the cigar causing it to bulge and consequently splitting the wrapper. Then it started to canoe on me. The burn finally evened out when I got past the tunnel down the side. At first I was constantly trying to get it to catch up but I gave in and just smoked it as it was. I hope the rest aren't like this.

i recently had a problem with a cabuaga (sp) coming unraveled,,, happened on the river. i attributed it to the dry conditions, since i've not had any other problems with any of their smokes!
