  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Size: Figurado (4.7x56)
Wrapper: Cuban-Seed Criollo
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan

I apologize in advance for the use of a stock picture! I was in the car when smoking, and didn't have a camera available. Dictated notes to my wife on the flavors.

Appearance: The wrapper has a nice, consistent creamy not-quite-light brown color. The leaf itself is overall fairly smooth. Some minor veins, but nothing stands out noticeably as problematic. The shape of the cigar is rather nice, with the larger ring gauge tapering down as you near the nub. Not a vitola I'm often familiar with, but the length and ring gauge fit nicely in the hand.

Pre-Light
Aroma: Most noticeable is mild tobacco, mixed with a small amount of hay, as well as some wood tones.
Cold Draw: The cold draw performs nice and smooth, if not just the tiniest bit loose. Some minor earthy soil tones presented beneath a primary medium tobacco flavor. Hints of a creamy taste in the background as well.

1st: The cigar starts off smooth, with a bit of that creamy flavor leading into some nuttiness and a nice mild tobacco flavor. There are some hints of dry cedar, with little to no spice in the mouth. The retrohale offers up some mild spice flavors, and some wood tones, more of an oak than cedar here. The cigar is burning very nicely, though faster than I expected at the widest point. Even burning fast the flavors are staying enjoyable.

2nd: The cigar seems to have slowed down going a bit into the second, even though the size is tapering down. Getting some more dry, nutty flavor as a lead in to some stronger, slightly darker tobacco. Some spice has come into play, but is very faint and at the trail edge of the draw. The cedar flavor has mellowed out, and a general woodiness replaces it. The retrohale offers some stronger pepper tones with the tobacco picking up the trail ends.

3rd: The nuttiness has faded into a more subtle creamy taste and mouth feel again. The tobacco remains a bit darker here, but is still allowing the other flavors to come through. Spices have toned down some as well, though they are still faintly present behind the wood flavor.

Impressions: The Perdomo 10th Anniversary is a nice, straight forward smooth cigar. It started off, to me, on a mild level and picked up to a medium in the flavor range. Again, it smoked a little faster than I expected but performed well in doing so. The flavors never got too hot or muddled. The nutty, creamy flavors and textures helped the cigar stay enjoyable. A nice any time option, or an enjoyable everyday flavor profile. The wood and tobacco flavors, being the most primary, worked well in keeping the cigar enjoyable. The standard Nicaraguan pepper wasn't really noticable throughout much of the cigar, and it would have been nice to have that little extra kick in a spot or two - but overall it isn't lacking because of it.
