  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Ask and you shall receive Abe....

A Connecticut wrapped cigar offered by Pinar del Rio.

Upon inspecting this cigar it was nicely rolled with no soft spots and a slightly veiny Connecticut wrapper. The cigar has two good quality bands, a bigger multicolor Pinar del Rio band with a smaller silver and burgundy "Exclusivo" band below it. I for one like to take my bands off before smoking and these bands removed easily without causing any damage to the wrapper. Topped with a triple cap that cut clean with my double guillotine cutter

This cigar has been in my humidor for a few weeks now and was ready to be smoked. I have a "go to" CT cigar that I like to smoke on the front nine while I am playing golf(I usually go fuller flavored on the back nine). Prelight draw on the Pinar del Rio had a faint taste of cedar and an earthy flavor to it as well, and seemed like it would draw well.

Upon lighting the draw was good and the flavor was slightly on the mild side with the hint of cedar and earthiness that was experienced in the prelight draw. The cigar held this flavor and burned rock solid throughout the first third. The ash was a medium gray and held for about 3/4 of an inch before falling off.

As it got in to the second third the flavor developed a little more towards medium bodied with stronger hints of cedar, a little tea flavor as well as the earthy undertone. It also developed a hint of a spicey/peppery flavor during the second third. It continued to burn nice and evenly throughout the second third and required no touchups.

For the final third the pepper faded away and the cigar finished with a similar flavor as the first third, with a stronger earthy flavor. I didn't quite nub this one as I became a little pressed for time after spending about an hour smoking it. All and all a good quality smoke and about what I expected for a Connecticut.

Thanks for the neat review, Craig! Having tried the other two lines, I can see this one being one bloody neat cigar.

You mean these Fonzy??

The only other one I have tried is the sungrown lancero and my impression is very similar to the few other reviews that were given in the last couple days. All though I tried to smoke the SG Lanc on the golf course and found Lanceros aren't the best golf cigar due to the fact they need a little more attention than say a Robusto or Toro would.

This weekend I had a chance to meet Abe Flores at Famous Smoke Shop. He Gave me one of the most beautifuly made cigars I've ever seen. It was a Pinar Del Rio Clasico Exclusivio. It smoked great and was a pleasure to look at and hold as well. The more senses envolved the better.

I had a chance to try one of these, but had put aside in my humidor. But chuck had smoked one at the big easy herf; and ended up lighting her up. Loved it. good dam stick. But have not seen any after that, might have to go online for these.

I tried the robusto a couple weeks ago and found it had a lot of flavor. So much so that I thought this was going to be a full-bodied CT! It ended up in the medium range, but I got a lot of rich, earthy, tobacco flavor with some nice spice (not peppery) to complement it.
