  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

This cigar is constructed very nicely. Not an extremely tight roll, spongy to the touch. It has a nice pigtail top and a slightly veiny brown wrapper. I clipped the tip with my SAK cutter and predraw was free from obstruction. Toasted the foot until it glowed a bright cherry red and gave it a nice puff to get things started.

First Third:

This cigar started up nicely with hints of cedar and leather dancing on my palate. As I got into the first third, I detected a tiny bit of spice deep in the back of my mouth. Lingering lightly with hints of crushed black pepper. The smoke was nice and creamy with hints of smoky caramel and leather, a strong charred cedar. The dark gray ash hung un for almost two inches before falling.

The smoke is buttery smooth as I let it find its way from my mouth and nostrils. As the first third draws to an end, I am picking up smokey spices now of nutmeg and paprika. The cedar has taken a back seat to oak and peat.

Second Third:

As the second third begins, I find myself having to pick up the pace to keep this cigar lit. This is not uncommon with the lanceros vitola, but this seem to be very stubborn. The burn is slightly off center, but not needing correction. The medium body smoke is now flooding my palate. I can detect a strong oak, nutmeg, and peat. There is a slight peppery aftertaste. I am occasionally sipping on a glass of water while enjoying this smoke, but with the peat and oak flavors going on, I thought I was enjoying a fine single malt scotch.

Last Third:

At this point, the burn is becoming more uneven. I decided to touch it up a little and clip the tip to remove the slight tar that has built up. The body of cigar is now shifting gears to more medium full. The smoke is still producing large white clouds and the ash is still a nice dark gray. The spice is now taking front stage. Very strong hints of black and red pepper, building to what tastes like a fire roasted bell pepper. The oak flavor is switching back to charred cedar. The finish was sharp and crisp leaving me completely satisfied.

Summary:

This cigar is a flavor masterpiece. My only complaint was that the construction was a bit off. The smoke produced was more than adequate and the body was definitely medium with a crisp finish. I would recommend this cigar to anyone who enjoys a creamy smoke with strong woody flavors and light spice.

PS: Sorry about the poor pic quality, forgot camera so I had to use my phone.

Nice review Ish!

I have one I've been holding onto... I've been really wanting to try it out, but it just feels to 'spongy/wet/fresh'...
