  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Anyone ever smoke one of these?

I smoked one the other day and noticed that it left a bit of spice on my lips. Didn't think anything of it and moved on.

Just pulled one out of the wrapper again and clipped it. Put it to my mouth and have a strong spice stinging on my lips and tongue.

I haven't lit it yet, but wanted to hear from you guys first.....

This thing jacked up, or common?

I haven't experienced this in anything else I've ever smoked....

Thoughts?

Thanks,
-Chrisso

I meant to place this under the "Cigars" thread, and not under review.... If a mod runs across this, could I bother you to move it please?

Im sorry....

Man... I had to chuck it. I couldnt keep it lit for anything!

It finally went out and I couldnt re-light it. The draw on it wasnt hard, but wasnt easy either. SO I moved on with life.

What little I did have smoked was very enjoyable. Not too bad!

These were reblended in last couple years. I loved flavors in old blend, but they were impossible to keep lit - even when dryboxed for a couple days. I seem to recall hearing that new blend specifically addressed that with new wrapper. I think blue band on the foot indicates newer blends, but I may have that backwards. I haven't tried the newer ones.

Blue band is on all the ones I've received from cbid, so I assume that they're the new blend. I love the oscuros, they're a great bargain smoke, for the 2 you can get 'em on cbid. They do benefit greatly from some rest, though.

I'm about ready to torch a PDR right now...Oscuro with the Blue box behind the name. After taking a quick sniff and putting it into my mouth I get that 'sting' from the wrapper as well...pepper taste as well and have to wonder about all of the reviews I've read prior to smoking...I get the "hard to keep lit" on this cigar to the wrapper coming apart. The one I have is about a good year old and is in good shape but lately I've been "wetting" all of my cigars to keep a nice even burn going. This helps tremendously with problematic cigars that tend to want to burn unevenly. I haven't bought any PDR cigars and would like to be surprised with this one I smoke tonight.

Cigary43,

How did it go?

I found two more in my humi. Thinking I'm going to give it another shot tomorrow. Looking for motivation though, lol!

I have a good stock of the old blend Oscuros in the corona and toro size. I like this blend along with the 1878 Reserva Dominicana Capa Oscuro - they almost resemble a Tatuaje PCR in flavor. I've noticed that the blue labels tend to be a little harsh without some down time. I'd give them a few months to a year to really let them shine. They all burn a little wonky, but nothing too crazy. I would try the Reserva Especials with the white labels if you are looking for a good milder smoke as well.

I think aside from the burn issues the reblended ones with the bands addressed this harshness and are more pleasing to smoke ROTT.
