  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

So I am found a pipe that I may be interested in, but the is something on it that I have never seen before. It almost looks like a "patch" that was put on the pipe. You can see it below in the picture. As anyone ever seen something like this before? It's a Butz Choquin if that aids any.

Looks like it's had a burn out then someone has patched it with briar dust and glue. Done well it should be OK if you don't smoke the pipe to hard. Personally it's a risk if you don't know the seller.

Thanks for the response. The seller didn't include this patch in the information which is what made me wonder.
Is briar dust and glue the best/only way to patch a burn out, or are there better methods? It is selling for cheap, and I have wanted to try my had at pipe repair/restoration.

I'd say this would not be a good one to start with. If it's is cheap then that's fine but there is always a chance the pipe could burn through again as it will always be weak at that point. They would have used a piece of briar then dust and glue around it. Message me with your address and I'll send you a pipe to have a go with.

Well I did pass on that pipe. @Cigar Smoker UK said he would send me a pipe to work on. It is a sweet looking Butz Choquin.

I appreciated his generosity as he lives across the pond from me and he insisted on paying for shipping. I get home from work today to a nice package.
