  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

This is Cornell & Diehl Kajun Kake. The tin was puffed up pretty good before I opened it. I wanted to like this blend, but it had a bitter aftertaste. I stored it away in a sealed jar for a year or so and opened it to find this off white "powder" on the outside. Smoked a bowl and it still has the "bitter" or "chemical" taste to it.
Have any of you folks seen this before?

I can't really see anything there. Maybe because I'm on my phone. But fwiw, I see sugar goodness on a lot of my tobaccos that are sealed up for a while.

I too can't make out much from the pic, but I've had plenty of aged flakes that had white sugary crystals

The only time I've seen any non-tobaccoy substances on pipe tobacco has been a 2006 tin of Tawny Flake. It has very distinct veins of bright white reflective crystals following what I'm guessing is specific tobacco in the flake. Looks like very fine white sugar. Reminds me of a core sample with Quartz running through it.

I also can't tell from the pic. But the sugars will kinda glisten in the light.

One of the other guys would remember, but I think C&D had a mold problem here not too long ago. I thought it was Kajun Kake.

Yeah, no bullshit. I work with a guy that got really sick and he smoked cigars and was a light hobbyist. His cigars were full of mold and he inhaled. They thought he had lung cancer but it ended up being mold in his lungs. Don't inhale... He was really really sick.

I recall there being a mold issue with Jackknife Plug. That's the one I had mold in, at least. :-/
