  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Please recommend a pipe that will let me finish the nub of a large ring cigar

I'm not a pipe guy at all so please forgive me. I usually smoke larger gauge cigars, typically a 52 ring size.
On a good cigar, I'll use a toothpick to let me smoke down past the width of my fingers. I'd like to try a pipe with a large enough bowl to fit the nub into.
Any recommendations? Something reasonably easy to clean (are any dishwasher safe?)?
Thanks in advance

I'm going to agree with Javelin on the cob. Of the MM cobs I own the one with the widest bowl is my MM Patriot.

How can nobody comment on the fact that the gentleman is wearing a leather hat, shirt, bracers, and pants?

To the OP-> Aren't you just looking for a cigar nubber? I wouldn't imagine a pipe to be ideal solution here...

Actually a pipe makes an excellent nubber. I smoked this on news years eve. The cigar was gifted but didn't survive the trip. Wrapper and binder were split. Wrapper was in really bad shape.

The first pipe I ever bought was in 2009 I think and it's sole purpose was to nub cigars.

Tried it, didn't work out.
I'd recommend a cheap cob.
Problem is, you won't get a good seal around the cigar in the bowl. And tamping doesn't work well on a cigar nub. And the ghosting effect is quite pronounced.

Just stick to a toothpick or similar.

You can do it, but like stated it really is difficult to get a good seal on the cigar and the bowl unless it just so happens to be the right bowl diameter to match the ring gauge. It also doesn't tend to burn all that great and ghosts your pipe terribly.

Also no never put a pipe in the dish washer.

Thanks guys, sounds like I'll stick to the toothpick method.
Wondering though, would a pipe with tall, tapering bowl allow a good seal to be made for a multiple of ring sizes?
I mentioned a dishwasher because of ghosting. Would be nice to have it easily cleaned. Maybe something ceramic.

What does "ghosts your pipe" mean?
