  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I picked up a bottle of a Blueberry Port wine (on sale, surprisingly) at a local vineyard here on Long Island. It's been aging a few weeks now. Plus I haven't had time to really sit down and enjoy a glass. But in a little bit of down time, I've been reading up on how a lot of people pair it with cigars. But have any of you paired it while smoking a bowl in your pipes?? If so, what baccy do you like to pair it with???

As luck would have it, I'm drinking some now. I pair it the Virginias or VaPers. It's plenty sweet so something dry is the ticket. Like Dunhill The Royal Yacht or any Navy Flake.
The port I got, I'd say is sweet. But not super sweet. I'm thinking about just winging it and try out different baccys and see what goes better with it.

Just figured if anyone had suggestions on what would be best or worst etc. Then again, all of our palates are unique and we'll probably never be the same.
I like it with non aromatics like Dunhill Flake McClelland #5100 Red Cake and Orlik Gold Flake. Dunhill Royal Yacht also pairs well. Maybe a mild Aro like Lane 1-Q. Lane Burley Lite Without a Bite as well. Not a big English fan but Esoterica And So To Bed would be worth a shot.

I got some of that in my "cellar." Just need a day off and free time to kick back with some to give it a shot.

Any particular brand you prefer?
Absolutely! Rare Wine Company Thomas Jefferson Reserve.

I have to qualify this though, I get it at wholesale cost through my friends in the wine business, not retail. Otherwise, I'd drink it a lot less often.

This is apparently the recipe of the Maderia that was chilling on the table in the whitehouse during the war of 1812 when the Brits burned it down. As the story goes, they drank all the Maderia first.

The cool thing about Maderia is that its a dead spirit, like liquor. So you can open it and not feel compelled to drink the whole bottle in one night. (Which would probably lead to a wicked hangover). That makes the $75ish retail price tag a little more palatable.

That's a pic I took a couple weeks ago. That's what it looks like.
