  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Paying higher taxes on cigars and flavored alcoholic drinks might end up saving you money.

New York Governor Eliot Spitzer says his plan is a way to raise revenue without raising your taxes.

Spitzer wants taxes to be the same for little cigars and cigarettes.
Right now a pack of cigarettes can cost you $5.

But little cigars are only $3.50.

Under Spitzer's plan, they would cost you another $1.50.

But if this bill becomes law, a Local Cigar Shop Owner says he thinks his customers might go shop somewhere else.

"In the long run smokers tobacco users will buy over the internet. They'll go over the border. They'll go to the Indian Reservations. And we're so close to Pennsylvania and the Indian Reservations."-said Terry Smith Co-Owner of Brown's Cigar Store

Spitzer also wants to raise the tax on flavored alcohol drinks, like "Mike's Hard Lemonade".

Right now, they're taxed like beer.

But Spitzer wants them taxed like liquor, which is more expensive.

The proposal needs to be voted on by the legislature before it can become law.

If they're taxed like liquor, then wouldn't all the grocery stores need a liquor license? Seems dumb to me to equalize the prices between all the products.

This is the same guy that's shutting down sales of tobacco on the New York State Fairgrounds, even though you can still smoke on the Fairgrounds. His real intent is to do away with all things "bad for you".
