BoM Sept '14 & BoY 2014
This sucks. This review will be much less detailed now that phone dumped the first 2/3 I already had written. I'm pissed but I'll do my best to recreate...
I was looking forward to this all weekend..........
Date: 9/21/2014
Review: PSJC Blind Review 4-C
Size: 5.5 x 48?
Pairing: shitty coffee
Cut: Xi3 redwood
Appearance/Construction: sexy, closed foot, dark wrapper. Smaller rg, but intimidating. I saved this one all weekend since it appealed the most to me
Aroma Pre-Light: reminiscent of windmill cookies. Brown sugar molasses dark sweetness
Cold draw: light spice, sweetness
Light: xikar double flame....
First impression: a lot of spice, blasted my nostrils. Again, had much more detail a couple minutes ago...
First third summary: super spicy, cinnamon sweetness, creamy thick smoke
Burn was crooked but self corrected
Entering second third: spice dialed back, creamy leather kicked in
Heavy smoke pouring out
Dammit!
This is where I pick up after losing the majority of review. Pissed but what can you do....
At halfway point. What started as a spice bomb had slowly dialed back to very subtle. A nice complexity with cream, sweet tobacco, cinnamon and light spice. Very enjoyable
I made some mention to beating super punch out this morning with my buddy Matt, giving him a tat black PL to enjoy with me which he's loving, and revisiting the thoughts of dtgw visiting me during a layover at dtw and how cool of a brother he is. All lost!!!
Spice is about gone now. So strange how sticks can have do much then so little. Leather is heavy at the moment. Finish is long. Cigar burning a little crooked but nothing offensive. I'm still disappointed I lost all the detail I wrote but can't do it justice since it was all in the moment
Draw is loose and smoke production is absurd for the small rg but I love it. Retro is smooth and fulfilling. Creamy leather, smooth but refined. Delicious
My initial inclination was don pepin rolled due to early spice, maybe tat due to closed foot, but more I have no clue
Need a touch up, just on one side.
Third third starting: entering the last third it seems the sick has gone mild. Flavors muted and spice non existent. Let's see in a couple puffs what happens.
Strange, flavors are there but super subtle. Smooth but not strong...At all. Not bad, just unexpected. Almost like this stick started on the high five board of flavor and jumped off falling the whole way.
Subtle sweet spice picking up. Tasty and crisp but still very subtle.
I did go undefeated in Ken griffey jr baseball this weekend. Made these guys my bitch lol. Also won poker tourney. Brother rivered two pair but it flushed me. He was pumped, then heart broken. A perfect finish
I definitely have the same feeling of missing the kids and wife I have when traveling, can't wait to see them. Especially the wife since there was a lot of r/tittydrop watching among other strange sub reddits I won't name
Matt just referred to his tat black PL as a treat. I love to share good sticks with occasional smokers. Really Fs with them in a good way. Glad he's enjoying it! I recommend sharing good sticks too unless your buddy will puff twice then out it out. Makes the moment better imo
This stick has picked up a bit. Burn is flawless. Creamy sweetness and subtle spice have balanced nicely now. Still producing a ton of smoke and I'm enjoying it. The first to second third transition was the best part by far.
I guess I could call this a baking spice finish. Smooth cinnamon cookie fresh out of the oven. Warm and wholesome. That's sounds ridiculous I know but it's good.
Overall Impression/Final thoughts: a great mix of delicious flavor. From spice to sweet with a nice smooth finish that lingered. The first third vs last third was like two different cigars in one so it visited the whole spectrum. Dark and oily with a ton of smoke output and easy draw. Right in my wheelhouse
Smoke time: 1h45m
Scoring: my scale isn't anything professional, so don't look at the score and think junk. I think on most scales the difference of 88 vs 92 is too acute whereas it should be more varied. Makes no sense how 88s can be considered yard gars but 92 can be cigar of the year. Advertising I guess...
Appearance and Presentation: 20/20, love the way this looked, classy but bold. Intimidating but inviting
Lighting and Burning Properties: 13/15, minor touch ups a few times but overall solid
Construction Properties: 25/30, few soft spots and few hard spots
Taste Properties: 30/35, complexity was nice, spice came out swinging and moistening the eyes but slowly settled in. The final third was much more calm, but really nice
Total: 88/100
I'm pinning this to Nicaragua. I'd say my father/tatuaje project but don't recall anything with this vitola so I'm anxious to find out. If the price is right I'm buying some and is you like mf type sticks then you should too
This was revealed to be...Jim?
Thanks Jim, these added to guys weekend an element that was fun, relaxing and enjoyable. Really appreciate the opportunity brother. Cool shizzzzz
