First, let's start with the thank you. In preparation for this, I did known cigar reviews on most every cigar I smoked, referring to reviews done by others to try and pick out flavors they noticed. I think I did okay, but, this experience Jim, maybe the best cigar smoking experience I have ever had. So, thank you very much!!!
On to the review.
Construction looks to be a 6 X 54?
It is very well constructed with a veiny dark wrapper, no visible seems and no soft spots to speak of. I see what I think are five caps on this thing?
but I could be wrong, that's just what it looks like to me. There are five individual lines there.
I used a straight cut on this. With a triple flame lighter
The prelight draw and smell both give off a sweet hay taste and smell. But the draw shows a lot of resistance, which disappoints me since I am a fan of looser draws.
No issue lighting, and disappointment flys right out the window because when drawn upon, this beast pulls quite a bit of smoke.
My plan was to leave this experience unadulterated and drink a glass of water with it, but my youngest had different plans for me. He wanted cold pizza and grape soda for lunch and he wanted dad to have the same. So if this review seems to have mention of grape flavors or a mild pizza taste to it, please forgive me as that was not my intent.
1st 3rd:
Someone mentioned chewing on baseball glove strings in their review, which makes its appearance here, but I'd like to add that the strings taste like they've been soaked in a mild pepper sauce. I say that because I'm getting a delightful undertone of spice, mostly as an afterthought, something left in the back of my throat. I think the best way to describe this 3rd would be to say it tastes a lot like leather from a cow that only grazed on jalapeño peppers. I keep getting a mild bittersweet taste, but I call that up to the grape soda.
I resist the urge to knock off the ash as I want to play its little game, the burn line here is impeccable.
Retrohaling the 1st 3rd is reminiscent of wasabi, in that it is a clean burn that brings tears to my eyes, not unenjoyable in the least, but when it's over, it's over.
2nd 3rd
Same cow and I are still visiting, but the 2nd 3rd was clearly marked by the 1 1/2" ash falling over my notepad and a change in the retrohale. No longer am I getting the wasabi type hit from it, just a mild burn. The burn line went a little wonkybut corrected itself rather quickly. A new flavor joined my little bovine friend, one that can only be described and orange zest. A tangy orange flavor, but not overt.
Final 3rd, again, marked by the ash falling off and a reversion back to the wasabi retrohale. I am forcing myself to let it sit for a time so I can see how well it stays lit during that time. So far, no issues. No real flavor issues, but the overt orange zest has increased, again, not overpowering in the least. I still have by jalapeño cow with me, but it is slightly overtaken by the orange. All in all, the most enjoyable of the group.
Appearance and presentation: 18/20
Lighting and burning properties: 14/15 (almost flawless)
Construction properties: 29/30 (again, almost flawless)
Taste properties: 30/35 (only because of my personal palate)
Total smoking time 2 hours
