Review Punch Grand Cru #2 Maduro Torpedo
MADE BY: Honduras American Tabaco S.A. (General Cigar Co.)
FACTORY LOCATION: Honduras
WRAPPER: Ecuador Sumatran
BINDER: U.S.A./Conn. Broadleaf
FILLER: Dom. Rep., Honduras, Nicaragua
RING GAUGE: 54
LENGTH: 6 1/8"
First review so go easy on me hehehe.
It is a Honduran cigar, with a connecticut binder, ecuadorian wrapper (silky with a cocoa-coffee color) and some Ecuador-Dom-Nic filler.
This 6"1/8 x 54 stick is a box pressed maduro with a pretty distinct "old" smell. I couldn't really tell what was it but it was like an old warehouse with a bunch of old barrels (old wood)...or something hehe. The construction of the stick was excellent; it felt a little bit spongy and firm (it has been stored for 3 months in my humi at 68% and 25c)
Pre-lit: the draw taste was exactly how it smelled - "old". I can't explain it well but it was sweet. The draw itself was good, more on the loose side but good resistance.
The first few puffs were sweet but really spicy. The flavor and strength through the whole cigar was mild to med (no buzz whatsoever). The finish was spicy and really long.
The first third didn't have much flavor but the second and third parts had a lot of spiciness like pepper with some sweetness and leather. There was some cocoa and wood taste but it was barely noticeable. The ash holds for an inch or so (1" 1/2 most of the times). The first third had a really firm ash, but the rest of the cigar wasn't. Even though It kept holding for an inch, it got flaky.
Total time: 1 Hour and 20 minutes (my ambient humidity was really high, so that probably affected the time)
Highlights: tons of smoke and really thick. Great construction, great draw (more on the loose side but excellent), almost razor sharp burn and it got hot at the nub...I really enjoyed this one. I know they sell it as a med to full bodied cigar, but I didnt feel it full bodied in flavor nor strength...maybe cuz i had a really GOOD dinner before smoking but i dont know.
