  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I picked up one of these off CigarMonster a couple of weeks ago. It was about $10 off the price listed on the Famous Smoke site during the mashup.

The construction is impressive for the cost. Stainless Steel cast body, surgically sharp cutter, and machined solid steel handle. The metal is polished but quite to a mirror, finger print resistant finish. The top has various size openings to accept different ring gauge cigars. The outside two are V-cutters, the middle two are flat.

I've had a chance to use it several times. It is simple and easy to use. Simply stand the cigar up vertically in the hollowed out opening and push the spring loaded handle down. The cuttings are caught in the bottom leaving no mess on the counter. A removable plug allows for clean out.

Handheld cutters are great for portability but this makes a classy addition to the man-cave.

I've never seen one of these in person, but from the picture it looks as if you hold the cigar vertically with the head high and place the foot into the cutter, right?
So how do how you know how much of the cigar you're cutting?

That's right. The bottom is cupped and the cigar only goes in so far. The smaller ring gauge cups are also shallower than the larger ones. Seems to work out pretty well. I particularly like the V-cutters. Perfect cut every time.

Usually shop owners will keep their equipment in good condition and the blade(s) sharp. Unfortunately I don't know of anyway that you can pre test a cutter unless you use a yard gar to bring with you..stick it in there and then see how it cuts. All I can tell you is that this cutter we're all talking about has proven itself to so many that even if you don't like it...send it back to famous. This particular cutter uses a scalloped type of cut....which is fine. I prefer a 'cats eye' cut myself but that is what a Boston Cutter does and that is why it costs so much...I paid $100 for mine 12 years ago and it's the little box V cutter...use it all the time.

Someday I might get over the tragic event. I will have to try again with another after asking if it is sharp. Why would a shop owner have a dull cutter next to the cash register.....oh well

been thinking about upping my home-herf capability with some sort of table lighter and table cutter... that thing looks rock solid.. and the price is actually very good..
