  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Size: 6 x 49 Box Press
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Arapiraca
Binder: Dominican Criollo-98
Filler: Dominican Republic Havana Vuelta Arriba Ligero, Nicaragua Ligero

Prelight:
The wrapper is very aromatic with a sweet and spicy scent. The cold draw tastes like dark cherries. I can’t wait to light it up.

First Third:
The draw is very nice with the perfect amount of smoke. Initial taste is bitter chocolate mixed with dark cherry. The smoke coats my palette with spice and cream. The spice isn’t overpowering and is just enough to let you know it’s there. I also pick up some cinnamon in the retrohale.

Second Third:
Not much has changed at all. Flavors are consistently the same from the first third. Only big difference is burn issues. I’ve had to relight twice and do a touch up. The ash was very solid the first half but now is very flaky and loose. I’ve never been too judgmental on touch ups because I believe it’s the flavors that count, but having to smoke faster than I like to keep this going is a bit discouraging.

Last Third:
Another relight. The spice has increased along with the cinnamon on the retrohale. The bitter chocolate is more of a burnt coffee and the cherry is completely gone. I cannot nub this cigar as it’s getting pretty hot and really can’t find a reason why I should try.

Final thoughts:
The flavors are decent but not would I expect out of a cigar in this price range. My neighbor (Lostinhere) picked this up for me at a B&M for $13. This is a cigar that I won’t be running out to find like some other LE’s. The relight issues pretty much turned me off and the flavors just don’t do enough to make up for it. While I honestly can’t recommend it everyone has different tastes and I don’t discourage you from trying one yourself.

Thank you for the review. I keep seeing Quesada at B&Ms, but not this particular stick. I should try this brand at some point... probably will not start with this one.

Thanks for the review. I really have enjoyed the 35th. I had problems with their burn when they first came out. Were just way too wet.

JDog....you aren't looking in the right places if you haven't seen these. They can be found in the right room.

im a quesada nut!!!! I love the espana! I love the 35th! Not a big fan of Oktoberfest but the 65 ring gauge is a great conversation starter.
Tried the smaller version of oktoberfest last night and was less than impressed.

I had a box of these sent to my shop on the recommendation of my rep who has impeccable taste. I lit one up and had one of the most pleasant smoking experiences in a few years.

To me it was similar in flavor to a Padron '29 or '45 but with more body and spice.

2 years of age definitely helped with any previous burn issues (this cigar was released at the 2009 IPCPR event).

I had the fortunate circumstance to have breakfast with Manolo Quesada at the 2011 IPCPR and mentioned this cigar. He leaned across the table and asked enthusiastically, "Do you still have some?!" Apparently these sold out in the first few days of the 2009 IPCPR and he's been trying to buy them back. My distributor decided to hang onto some boxes and let them age, then slowly release them. He's also sold out now too.

If you have the rare opportunity to try this cigar, I would highly recommend it!

I purchased a box of these 2 months ago in Hawaii and now I'm on my last two sticks. These do not disappoint.
LOL..I was at Tamura's Aikahi the other day and they still had half a box on the shelf. I was tempted to grab them for myself.

I split a box with one of my retailers when they first came out. Couldnt even save them long enough to age. All gone now!!!:crytears:
