  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I found this review on my computer while looking for something else and realized I never got around to posting it. Seems like a fitting time to do so...

Size: 4.5 x 40
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Hybrid
Binder: Honduran
Filler: Nicaraguan & Dominican
Price: ~ $4.00

Intro: The Tributo line was released in 2010 and as you might guess from the name Tributo, it is a tribute to past members of the Quesada family who have made this cigar possible. The Tributo is the inagural blend released by the Quesada family. The wrapper on this cigar is an interesting hybrid between two types of Habano, Corojo, and Sumatran tobacco. It comes in four vitolas: Manolin (6.5 x 60), Julio (5 x 50), Alvaro Belicoso (6 x 52), and the Alvarito (4.5 x 40). In keeping with the Tributo theme each of the names are taken from names of Quesada family.

Prelight: Visual inspection reveals a chocolate brown wrapper with some darker mottling in places. Little bit of an oily sheen to it. A few smaller veins, but nothing that should cause issues. Seams were tight and the cap is neatly applied. The leaf design on the band is one of my favorites. Understated yet classy. Aroma was a light spice and tobacco. Cap cut cleanly and the draw was good. Cold draw wasn't much except for some light woody tobacco flavor. Fired it up and away we go...

First Half: Initial flavors were a slight spice. Something akin to nutmeg, but with a slight sweetness. Also a light woody tobacco profile. A little ways into it there was some coffee on the retro hale. The burn was spot on, the ash a bright white.

Last Half: The second phase of the cigar was pretty much the same. The spice dropped off and the wood flavor deepened with an added touch of light leather. Burn remained sharp and the ash held strong in inch long clumps.

Final Thoughts: Overall not a bad little cigar. From what I've read, I do feel this size probably isn't as good as some of the others. The flavors were a little subdued to me, but they weren't bad at all. I'd be interested to try some of the other sizes to see how they pan out, but this size would be good to have around when cooler weather hits.
