  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Going with a short stick to end the night and decided on a blind review from Dave to peak my interest.

First off, thanks Dave for the stick to review. Stick marked rasshat review C.

Nicely constructed stick. Looks just shy of robusto in thickness but I'll just say robusto.

Paired with h2o like most sticks I smoke. A mild evening that is breezy out. Kids are sleeping and it's peaceful :)

Cut with xi3 and and get the double flame filled.

Almost clipped the cap right into my water cup. Idiota!

Not much scent coming off this stick. A mild tobacco scent, maybe slightly sweet with chocolate but faint. Wrapper is toothy with a smooth sheen. Very contradictory of itself but looks sexy. Cold draw has minimal resistance with a sweetness to it.

Personally hoping Dave didn't sneak me two budget sticks for review since I passed on a mini mum tonight for the blind review and smoked a couple really nice sticks earlier(angels share and maximus). But regardless this stick was free so even if it is I'm still grateful to Dave for the generosity. I just know he was trying to set me up with the last one I smoked :)

Pit stop to take my wife pizza...she's babysitting the neighbors kids and took then home to go in their own beds. Also spilled my water on way. I guess God didn't want me to drink that cup...refill!

Let's light this bad boy up!

She fires right up and throws a ridiculous amount of smoke. My favorite.

First third begins with a slight spice that is sweet like a tat broadleaf.

Nice spice on the retro, but not overwhelming. Slightly eye watering but in a good way to me.

Started tosh.o while smoking. Started with a guy hanging himself from his junk...What this show lost in creativity it has tried to make up with unnecessary weirdness. Used to be great.

This stick is starting pretty nice. Razor Ramon burn(had to) and a nice balanced spice with sweet. A very hard to describe flavor, almost licorice but too subtle to say that. This stick is firm throughout, barely any soft spots, but still draw is great. Wide open how I love it. I know a lot of others like some resistance but it's not for me.

Spice seems to be picking up. Yep, definitely picking up. Dominating actually. Not spicy on tongue, but strong spice on retro. Tingly, but would prob be too much for some. Will call it borderline overwhelming but tolerable. One puff later it calms down a lot. Still spicy but I retract a bit. And the peasants rejoice...(home improvement reference? They said it couldn't be done).

Spice is still there, but it's partying with a grassy note now that has come through the door. This has started well.

Razor Ramon still in the ring.

Changing tosh.o to shark tank since I'm not paying attention. Love this show and can pay attention in background while reviewing this stick.

2/3
About to enter the second third. First puff has almost no spice. Weird. Ash holding tight, burn staying steady. So far so good.

Shark tank is about a product called reviver where you can wipe a pad on your clothes and it freshens them up. Kind of matches the cigar smoker since my wife always gives me Crap about smelling like cigars lol

I can't describe any flavors here. Very subtle now. Not unenjoyable, just subtle. Ash fell...on the ground not my lap. Win!

A little creaminess coming in. Subtle, but enjoyable. Maybe a little chocolatey. Impressive burn line the whole way. Love when that happens!

Shark tank now has a girl caddy company for golfers. Not sure about others but the last thing I want is hot women watching every shot I take on a golf course. Embarrassing...

This stick is reminding me of the JL2, started with some spice, mixed in some grassy, then got a bit subtle. I don't think that's what I'm smoking but reminds me of it.

Checked my fantasy hockey team. Got a shutout and another one might be brewing. I've won the league 3 out of 4 years and I don't even watch hockey. Pisses these guys off to no end which makes it so much more fun for me since most of them are life long hockey nuts. I'm dominating again this year and talking mad shite on our league page. After my abysmal baseball season in botl and my keeper league, I needed a change. It's perfect hahahaha

This is as uneven as this has gotten:

What a burn. Grassy coming back in a bit. Taste is subtle but nice. Isn't a legendary stick by any means but I'm definitely enjoying it. So far I'd say something Dominican that you can get for around $6-7 retail. Maybe an affordable fuente?

All this talk and no guesses about Dave's botl handle!!! 3/5??? Maybe he's religious, but he's taking a new approach to the five percenters concept and is either at 60% or 3/5 off a five percenter...3%er Dave? He may be a little bit too Caucasian for that fit but hey I can speculate all I want. Maybe he once bit a chunk out of a nickel and only 2/5 was left, then he swallowed his share...3/5 nickel Dave? Maybe he has come up with something similar to pi but instead of the circle he is referring to the oval. Pi is sometimes rounded off to 7/22, but ovals could really be captured with something close to 3/5 and he's light years ahead of mathematicians...3/5 oval Dave? Who really knows. Maybe Dave was just trying to use all symbols on the keyboard when he entered his name while signing up but wasn't holding shift on accident...3 letter cuss word Dave??? Anyone know a three letter cuss word? Bahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaa

3/3
In the third third and the grassy taste is pretty prevalent. Smooth smoke, no spice anymore, tasty and pleasant.

Just needed the most minor of touch ups. No worries, no complaints.

Ooh, a new flavor. Maybe a cinnamon baking spice? A light red pepper spice? Maybe a mix? Maybe a brown sugar plus spice? Can't nail it but it's really nice. It's lingering and haunting me, dammit! It's rich and thick too. I'm upset there's only an inch left!!!

This third is definitely the highlight. Strong finishes are great. Like a rocky balboa fight :) my palate is Ivan Drago on Christmas day...It's getting lit up! This combo is nothing short of awesome. Long finish that just sits on the tongue and in the nostrils. The spice is light, but just right given the flavor profile. Smoke is still the right temp and the grassiness is still in the background. An overall complexity that is singing a pleasant tune. Something else is in there to but I can't pinpoint it. I'm already committed to burning my fingers(or fingahs as Sean would say).

Side note: second shutout of the night in hockey. Ballin!!!!

Another very minor touch up just to make sure this keeps burning straight for the finale.

Finger burning...grab earlobe. Old hand solderer trick of the trade. If you never tried it, give it a go. It works Instant relief!!!

Party is over

Look at that burn line!

Final thoughts:
Started super spicy, then calmed way down in the middle. Final third was epic. A nice mix of complexity and some really nice flavors involved. A really good stick I would revisit for the right price. Impeccable construction with very minor touch ups late.

My son woke up right as I wrote that. Perfect timing. Thawed some boob milk and feeding him while concluding. Love this little man with all my heart :)

I will stay Dominican on the stick. Reminded me of some nica sticks out of the starting block, but the last 2/3s was far more Dominican to me. Obviously I'm guessing, but it didn't have the nica flavor bomb aspect like a lot of nicas do. Been enjoying Dominicans a lot lately. Wouldn't surprise me either way. Could be something epc maybe? I'm torn...

If we were on the scale I'd call this a 91. Overall solid performance and flavors. Could have done without first third spice blast but it was all part of the journey.

Thanks again 3/5 Dave. Now, what is it? Fake Cuban I'm hoping;)

Cheers!

Great Review Ryan. You're gonna love this one. It's an AF rothschild natural. Picked up a box of them using the BnB tobacco groupon for about 2 bucks a stick...and right now if you use the groupon link that whitewater posted in the pipe and tobacco deal thread (have to use that link) you will get the friends discount and get 100 dollars for 32 bucks! Not sure how long the deal is good for but I got one tonight.

Glad you enjoyed the stick brother!

Shit you not I was going to guess that exact stick since I've enjoyed the maduros and knew you had bought some nattys from bnb. Remarkably different than the maddy. More refined.

Thanks again :)
