  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

got my box of Special Selects today. (along with a box of Padron's) all i can say is that its a very pretty cigar. they felt kinda mushy so im gonna let em sit for about a week before i try one. the code on them is Nov 05. ive heard from a few of you that these cigars will go sick about a year old so im not sure what to expect from these.... :smokingbo

I love me some young RASS but they do have a horrible sick period. If you experience this after their rest, then I'd go by the sample after 6 months approach.

Buddy of mine just gave me one of those its a 10/05. I've had a couple of sick ISOMs before and just did not enjoy the experience. I'll be holding off for a little while.

An aged RASS is a most outstanding cigar. When these go south, they go south for more than a year or two, so smoke 'em or put them in the back of your humidor for a 24 months. The transformation that happens is pure magic.

IMO Ramon Allones & La Gloria are the longest maturing Havanas, as a whole. I would throw punch in there as well, but I haven't quite experienced a "mature" level that they hit at a certtain age. I think there's not a wall like with these two brands that just screams, ready.

That being said, I don't think there's a magical time at which they become "smokeable". It varies for each vitola & how it was packaged.
Before RASS came in cabs, I would buy DB's & put them in CORO cabs so they'd age in a varnished SLB instead of just a normal box. Have yet to crack any boxes I have that way, but it's been years since the first & I have no intention of testing my theory yet. I'm thinking 10 years will be a good time. They should still be tannic but very refined. I had 98's that were just in a box & as of the begininning of this year when I finished them, they were still definately strong, w/ that tingling sensation in your nostrils after you exhale. Yum...

MRN is spot on, very similiar to RASS IMO
The typical fruity, woody, nutty RA profile stands out. An emphasis on the sweet flavors shine through. The PC & Corona, to me, are a bit more savory.
898v is a perfect mix of the two

It's true: my wife has just gotten better with age. Or isn't that what you were talking about?:widemouth

Back on topic, I have tried several RASS's, and they just don't do anything for me. Just too much spice for my taste. I much prefer any SLR's, Monty #2's & RyJ Churchills. JMO, YMMV.
