  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I have a rather large project that is going to be completed here middle of next month, to celebrate I would like to buy a $200-250 bottle of scotch.

I like the Islay's and the lowlands but the Auchentoshan Three wood is one of my favorites just to give an idea of my palette.

Any suggestions would be great Thanks

I'm a big Balvenie fan and think it would work with your palate. You can try the Balvenie Port Wood Rare Reserve 21 yrs if you are really set on spending in the 200 range. I think the Balvanie Doublewood 12yr is a little more flavorful though.

I'm also a big fan of the Bal 21 in that price range. And man, I sure do miss back when it was $110 here.

For my money, though, I'd buy two bottles of Highland Park 18 and go get a sandwich with the residuary.

Sigh.

__________

Checking prices at my local, I find that 21 is now about $220 a btl here.

But they did also have listed the Balvenie 50y for a steal at $32104.90, if you're really feeling fancy...

Is this bottle for you? or are you planning on cracking it upon project completion and celebrating with the project team, etc?

The reason I ask.. is if you have a diverse audience.. you might be better off going with something everyone "knows"...

We used to have "Blue" parties whenever we won large scale work or completed something really challenging, etc.. (Cracked a liter of JW Blue)...

There are SEVERAL single malts I prefer over blue that are in the same price range (or cheaper)..

But for the average non scotch drinker.. blue represents the cream of the crop.. and makes for a super memorable experience.. they will tell all of their buddies about drinking "blue".. but wont remember "Macallan", "Dhalwhinnie", etc.. the next day (just not something they are familiar with..

If its for you, and you alone (or to share with friends over time, etc..)... totally different story...

Thanks for the suggestions, This bottle will mainly be for me and a good friend of mine. We'll probably have a few drams and put it away for a while would be my guess, I think it would be a shame to drink all of it in a evening even with several people enjoying it.
I've had a bunch of bottles in the $100 range including the Highland Park 18 as good as it is, I'm thinking something that I may never get again.
I'm a fan of The Balvenie but I've never had the 21. I've heard of the Lagvulin but I've never heard of the Glenmorangie Signet part of the problem is I live in a small town(hopefully not for much longer) and our local is lacking in the top shelf big time. They also won't special order a singel bottle, So I travel back to my favorite liqueur store in Portland to make a purchase.

That Lagvulin sure looks good damn!

Thanks agin!

One of the Glenmorangies in that price range would be an excellent choice.
+1 to the Signet suggestion.
